Remote Key Fob Question

Hi Folks, my neighbour has the same car as I do a 2002 Taurus. His key fob stopped working and I just purchased a new on Ebay. Is there any trick to making it work when I get it? This fob has the same FCC # and model # as his none working one.
I tried looking in the Arcives but I am really not good at looking up things there.

Thanks for any suggestions and help!!

Hey there Rob. I was able to find the instructions for reprogramming an 03. I hope this will work for your 02. Good luck. Let me know if it does not work and I can do some more searching!

Turn with key off to on (not start) 8 times ending the 8th turn in the on position within 10 seconds. if done right the doors should luck and unluck by thenselves. Within 20 seconds after that press any button on the remote. 99-06 remotes should be all the same for your car.

Rob, did your car come with remote keyless entry? It sounds like, from your first post, that maybe you don't have any keyfobs and you are hoping to use your neighbor's and the one from eBay with your car.

Also, did your neighbor try replacing the battery to see if that made it work again? He should probably enter the programming mode of his car to clear out the one he gave you. He won't want yours to be able to lock and unlock his car.

Now I am confused, Regarding the remote key fob, We put a New battery in it and it still did not work. Then we tried to open up the Trunk from the inside button and it didn't work??
Could there be a fuse blown that runs the keyless remote operation?? If so, where can I find it?
Thank you ALL for your support in this matter!!

Yes, there could be a fuse for the remote keyless entry/Remote Antitheft Personality (RAP) module.

Sometime when my sister-in-law is out of our guest room, I'll get on the computer in there and check the service manual for fuse location.

It appears that the power lock relays and the trunk relay are all powered by fuse F2.22 in the Central Junction Box, a 20-amp relay.

Do the door switches for the power locks operate the power door locks fine? All the lock/unlock relays are operated via the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) which also contains the remote keyless enty function.

Also, I've deleted the new thread you started for this same question.

Ok, now I am really confused regarding above. I tracked down the fuse on the fuses under the dash thanks to a posters instructions, and the fuse was blown. OK, I replaced the fuse with a new one and ever the trunk will not open pushing the button ( IN ) the car. Am I missing something to check??
Thanks as always for any help you guy's can give me!

How good are you at following a wiring diagram and testing parts of the car's electrical system? If you'd like, I can e-mail you a PDF of the remote keyless and trunk release wiring diagrams. If you'd like them, send me a private message with your request and an e-mail address for you that can accept PDF attachments.
