04 Express 2500 4.8L - AC Overheating Problem

Hey all, I'm having a bit of a problem with my 04 Express. On a hot day when the temperature is in the high 80's/90's the temperature gauge goes up my 40-50 degrees when I put the air conditioning on. I am afriad that the engine will overheat so I turn the AC off but the heat is unbearable. Is there something wrong with my van or is this normal?

Does it do it on the road or at a stop light or sitting still?
Can you feel and hear the fan moving air good?
Look in front of rad for anything blocking air flow.pastic screen wire carb board or even mud or dirt.
Pull rad cap and make sure the rad is full of coolant.
Have you checked or replaced the thermo stat?
How hot in degrees is it getting?
Does the tempt gauge show actual tempt?
