CV Shaft replacement??

During my last oil change and lube I noticed that my passenger side CV shaft needs replacing. Both boots are torn in half exposing both joints and there is alot of up and down play in the shaft. I also experience a loud clunk upon turning and breaking. I was going to replace the whole assembley with one like this.

I have found several different instructions on how to remove/install some involve taking out the lower ball joint and some don't. Anyone with experience doing this please let me know what is needed, any special or surprise tools or parts. Anything else I should look at/replace while I have it apart. The drivers side apears to be in decent shape, but should I go ahead and get that one while I am at it? Thanks
