Ok, so I bought a new replacement clutch fan but I can't get the original off... My crappy manual says to use GM special wrench or equivelent... I have a 1-3/8 to grab the sucker but how do I hold the water pump from turning... Please help...

Geez,... I never thought of that... Could that damage the pully wheel? What exactly does this special GM wrench look like? What does it do?

Grabs the pulley and holds it, you can wedge a 3/8 extension into the pulley to brace it and turn the fan off, the channel locks can also work here. Look at the configuration and you will see where it can be used to stop or hold the pulley.

you can also use a 36mm open end wrench and a prybar, that's what I use sometimes.here is what the gm tools look like.

Thanks to the guys who offered their help. Especially Maxwedge... The large channel locks worked perfectly.
By the way... The local GMC dealer wanted $461.00 plus 3 hrs labour at $73.00 per. I found it at a local parts dealer (one day to get it in) for $175.00 and installed it myself...
Thanks again...
