I'm gonna ask a question that many other may already asked, but i want answer that help me to solve in where i live.
so here's the common question:
1, how to remove old paint off the model car? and what can i get from Australia (most importantly)?
2, how to strip parts off a assembled kit? it just one of my old finishes, and i wanna repaint everything again.
thanks for everyones' time.

Hello and welcome. To answer your questions.

1: Depends what paint you have used to paint it.Enamels I use Mr Muscle oven cleaner.Anything else isopropyl alcohol 91%+ strength. With the oven cleaner place the parts to be stripped in a plastic sandwich bag, spray in the oven cleaner, allow to soak for a good few hours, then remove and scrub the parts.Repeat if necessary. With the alcohol pour the alcohol in a suitable tub with a sealed lid and soak the parts to be stripped in the alcohol overnight.Next morning remove the parts and scrub off the old paint. It may take a couple of soaks to remove all the paint.

2: Depends on the type of glue you have used for assembly????

Hi, aussie new guy! welcome to AF!!!

1) my method of removing paint from body is using brake fluid. it works excellently for de-chroming too! but do test out the plastic to see if the fluid 'attacks' or not!

2) my method is 'freezing the whole item in the fridge for a day...then gently knock them off one by one. but there's no guarantee part won't break ok!?

hope it helps!

cheers

thanks for the quick reply, guys.
I use tamiya products in all my works.
the model car has been assembled for a while too.
for the aussie answer? if i put it in the freezer, am i suppose to just sand the marks off?
cheers

well, in general yes.

the last time i tried to de-glue a model car it works quite well, only a couple of broken inserting studs. please make sure you put the item in a ziplock bag for hygiene sake before freezing!

there may be more methods in de-gluing the item...stay tune for more replys from the other modelors...
