We have a Pontiac Ferio Gt V6 1985 Lh drive Automatic, the problem is that the car cuts out when it seems to get warm, you can restart the car, but as soon as you go to put it in drive it cuts out. You can sit in park & it will rev up & down fine, if you throw it into drive it hi revs it goes, when this happens the speedo & rev counter gauges work in reverse when turning key on or off as well. Then all the problems go away again. It seems to be interminent when it wants to play up. We have had it in to a garage but like murphys law it didn't play up. Any help would be appreciated as we can not find anyone with exprience in working with these cars in New Zealand. It seems to play up more if your a little heavy on the pedal, than taking things quietly

Needs some Carb work sounds to me like. Wouldn't hurt changing the sparkplugs....oh no, don't remind me of the last spark plug change...

Well i doubt it needs carb work since fiero's dont have carbs... i have no clue you would have to do diagnostics on it. I had a 2.5L fiero that did something simmiler and after changing everything from the fuel pump to the computer to the throttle body it ended up beign an O2 senser, ran good out of gear though

Check the tach sending wire (or plug). It's the gray plug on the ignition coil. If it's lose or broken that could be your problem.

Check the ecm grounds on the block. I've had problems with the distributor shaft loosing its magnetism when the car was hot. In your case I'd remove and clean the computor grounds.
