The drivers door window in my `99 Regal won't go down. Is this a common problem, if so where should I start?

Start with the fuses to make sure that it isn't blown. Then check the switch to see if it is working properly. It could be bad. If it isn't in the switch you may have to pull the door panel off and check the motor to see if it is getting power and will move. It could be stuck or the motor could have burnt out. If you need another one try a local wrecking yard or contact Ed Morad at moradpartscompany.com. He specializes in W bodies.

I have a 98 and I am not sure if it is the same set-up as yours.
It happened to me and I popped out the button thing from the door handle.
Then I cleaned all the switch things with contact cleaner.
The button thing will have two wire clusters attached to it.
It dosn't take that long to do.
If necessary you can change the button with one that controls a different window to test .(Back window you use the least)
Cheers

How did you "pop out" the "button thing". Did you need to remove the whole door panel or were you able to get it out by itself?

I have a 97 Regal - The same problem happened with my drivers side window. The window control button on that side always stuck a little bit. After a while it just wouldn't budge, so my window was stuck down. I took off the door panel and checked it out, the wire in the pully system of the window was frayed and very tight about to snap. I had the regulator changed and the window worked, but its starting to do the same thing again.

It is quite possible that the same thing is happening. The drivers window gets the most work and the regulators aren't that good. I would pull the door panel off again and check to see what is going on. Also you may want to lubricate the entire track as water can cause issues like sticking and hard movement. This may actually remedy the problem if the cable is in good shape. Good Luck!

GTP Dad, you said:
"Also you may want to lubricate the entire track as water can cause issues like sticking and hard movement."
What do you use to lubricate the track with?
I have two windows that frequently stick on my '98 GS.
