I have a 1992 jeep wrangler (2.5L engine and 5 speed manual transmission) The problem it has is intermittent, It idles just fine but sometimes when im driving it the engine will just shut off. It does not choke, act like it is stalling or sputter, It just shuts off without warning. It does not matter how fast im driving or how far i drive or if the engine is hot or cold. Had anyone else had this problem? What was the fix? The fuel filter, plug wires, plugs, rotor, and cap have all been replaced and lucas fuel treatment added and i still have this problem :banghead:
Any help would be appreciated

I have a 92 wrangler and had the same problem, turned out to be a sensor in the engine, but it took me a while to figure it out.

What sensor Fixed this problem? I have a 1993 Wrangler that cuts off at about 3000 rpms and will not restart until the key is taken out. It will restart and idle fine.

After a while i figured out what was happening with my jeep and i felt stupid for not thinking of it before. It was a faulty Ignition Control Module (ICM). This could be your problem or you could have a bad distributor pickup coil which is just another name for a camshaft position sensor. It could also be a crankshaft position sensor but usually when they go bad the engine wont turn over at all. Does your jeep seem to cut off right at 3 thousand rpm's or does it happen under other conditions?

It does it right at 3000 rpms but it was doing it at 2000 in 2nd gear. I just went out and pushed on some electrical connections and I can not get it to do it now so I may have had s loose connection. If it does ot again, I will def check those items out. I appreciate you responding so fast.

My daughter has a 1992 Jeep Wrangler that is shutting off. It did this randomly before and we replaced the catalytic converter but now it just suddenly started shutting off a few minutes after we crank it. Fuel pump is new, plugs are good, it's firing and getting fuel but shuts off. I replaced the computer ECM but it is still doing the same thing. Any suggestions?

The crank sensor has absolutely NOTHING to do with the engine turning over. Please do not give advice that sucks. It will only confuse the other amateurs.
