97 z28 with ac issues

For some reason my air conditioning is not working correctly. I select ac on the knob but the air comes out of the defroster vents on the top and bottom of the dash instead of the vents facing me. It does not matter what I have it selected to, it seems stuck. It also is not always warm/cold depending on the temp. i have the dial set to. Any idea's guys? Thanks.
