1g awd tsi was ticking then cut off

i was at schoool driving to the parking lot,the car started ticking and cut off,tried to crank it back up but it just fired,and didnt turn.

Ticking like loudly knocking or just a little tick?

did it sound like rocks hitting a tin can?

that one,i thought it was a lifter at first because of the age,but when it stopped running,i knew it had to be something more serious
