Might Get Rid Of My Clunkerado

Sorry guys but i might be getting rid of my 2002 silvy, just can take the unreliability of it any more, all the bumps and thumps and hard shifts and crappy gas mileage and replacing parts every couple weeks, its not what i bought a truck for. I know you take a chance when you buy a used vehicle, but this one takes the cake, i have never had this many problems with a used vehicle and put so much money into one in 6 months, even with one with double the miles. I just can take it any more!

Sorry for the bad luck!! I have always bought used, sometimes really used, but have been pretty lucky so far. In fact, my wife and I have only had one new car ever. This might actually be perfect timing for you to get something more reliable, fuel efficient, and worry-free. Keep us posted on what you decide. Sometimes there is a silver lining.

Sincerely,
Matt

Looking at a (take it easy on me) Ford F150. So far on my truck since i got it in October i had put 4 new tires on it, brakes all around, all new steel brake lines, 2 alignments, went through 2 different Knock sensors, a transgo shift kit, all new shocks, changed rear end lube, 4x4 fluid, belt, AC tensioner, regular tensioner, spark plugs, wires, TPS, and i know there is more. And it rides so rough, still shifts hard, rear end clunks every now and then, only getting around 13 MPG with the 4.8. I have the piston slap, and when i change oil there is a nice carbon sludge around the magnet on the oil plug (which cant be good) I think this truck was really beat before i got it and its probably only going to get worse. Sorry.

I had lots of trouble with my 2000 ext cab but the forum saved me thousands in repair costs. I now have a 2005 ext cab and it is a much better made truck.

Good idea! You should expand your choices before settling on something that may leave you in a similar situation.:shakehead

You win...you have had way more problems with your truck then I had with mine. I had continuous ABS and brake problems...those were the most expensive. Plus the normal maintenance for a truck with 113k miles on it.

So i got rid of my Silverado, and got a ford, sorry, but for the same money im paying for the chevy i could get this ford which is in alot better shape and alot more comfy than my silverado. I think i worked on my silverado since the day i pulled it out of the lot. And i hated coming on these boards cause every problem or symptom i saw people had, i knew i had it with mine. Thanks for all your help though guys!

Now your running into timing chain territory, If it is a 5.4 make sure the spark plugs have been replaced avery 50k or you will be pulling the heads.

Sorry about your truck, nobody makes good cars anymore.

Good luck, I had a 2005 ford piece of poo F150. I got 10. maybe 12 mpg with the 4.6 motor and no towing package. My 2002 silverado gets close to 18 now that I have slowed down with the 5.3 and a towing package. I will never buy another ford. The really bad part was the ford was new and the chevy has 220K on it...

xjcamaro 69 screwed with his vehicle too much.....you cannot get more power and higher gas mpg's.....buying the ford 150 is going backwards as far as mpg is concerned.....they are the worst in mpg in this truck class..

I'm getting 19-20 hwy keeping speed to 65mph's

The only things i really did to my truck were stuff to fix it. And im getting a ford cause the last fords i had were great and the last couple chevys i had have been nothing but crap. Im not that worried about gas mileage, 13, 14,15, ive seen it all with any truck ive had lately.

well, to be honest, most of this is regular maintenance. i bought mine with 58K miles on it and 1st thing i did was to replace ALL the fluids, which you don't even mention rear diff, front diff, and transfer case fluids. plugs too. wires too.

but yes, they are called clunkers for good reason. even better, chevy does squat to remedy persistant problems, same issues, like steering wheel clunk, run through generations of those trucks. make things worse, you got yourself underpowered 4.3L, and it has lots of weight to push around, thus crappy mileage and wears out much faster than 5.3 or 6.0 brethren.
what can i say. don't buy fords, period. you'll regret it even worse. if you just must have truck, and that's yours and yours only decision, save and get tundra or titan, and be blessed. you will not find hasppiness in domestics.

Ive just never had a car/truck that has needed more work on it at 55,000 miles than that silverado i had. Heck i had a '93 1500 with a 350 TBI, 5 spd. It was all original up the time i sold it at 130,000 miles in 2004. And i did have to replace front diff and rear diff fluid, plugs and wires, if i didnt mention them before on the silverado. And ive had a couple fords before and didnt have nearly the amount of problems that i have had with my last 3 chevys (Silverado, and two blazers) Thanks though.

do not buy toyota trucks.....check it out they have severe frame rot problems so you have been warned....

this was so bad that toyota gave the owners a very good deal if they purchased a new rust bucket....

Would you be referring to the issue with the Tacoma, isn't it on three model years. This makes all Toyota Trucks bad? Over Critical? What about the TSB that you referred to, I would like to see the big three eat something like that.

Its like saying all Chevy trucks are junk after whats going on in this thread.

And im not saying all chevy trucks are bad, its just over the past couple years ive had better luck with fords than chevys. And who knows what the previous ower did to the truck, a car fax report only tells so much.

Ya I'd like to see GM match that sweet deal Toyota gave thier rust bucket owners ,,,that will never never happen....no way ever....by GM...now thats how you get loyal customers by making the customer feel he has been treated fairly...when things go wrong...thats why Toyota is leaving GM in the dust.....GM will not last very much longer ...how can you lose billions every quarter and stay alive....?
