fuel Quantity indicator

I 've been searching the forum about my fuel quantity ( its basically stuck between just under full and way over full...but the low level light always worked), and determined by reading many posts that its probably my fuel pump/sender unit in the tank. Naturally I proceded to change out the unit and after several hours had the unit changed out. To my horror the problem is still there, and I'm now asking what direction do you think i should look in. Any replies will be appreciated.
Sorry guys its a 2004 with a 3.4 automatic with 87000 km about 55000 mi

Update for anyone who's interested.......

I decided to remove my instrument cluster and see if I could see anything unusual on the instrument circuit board. Everything looked OK, so I did some more searching for troubles with the wiring.....everything looked really good, no corrosion,no stray wires (we had a command start installed several years ago) nothing out of the ordinary.....I even cleaned the battery terminals and the "third end" even though they looked just fine( that should satisfy Rick.....hehe..).
In the end I bit the bullet, went to the j/y and got myself a new instrument cluster. hooked it up and my problem disappeared. the best part of the whole thing is I went from 87K on the odometer to 20K. I'm not quite sure how to fix that......
The problem was a pooched gas gauge, and not the fuel quantity sensor. I guess the moral of the story is if your gauge needle is stuck, but the low level light still works it could be a screwed up gauge.

Sometimes installing face gauges can damage the gauge(s) needles but i'd assume that wasnt the case here.

My SE only reads the fuel properly, when its empty.... the GT works as long as its above 1/4 tank.
I'm not going to replace either untill the pumps go out when ever that will be..
I even think my Sonoma's guage is flakey. ....

Just to clear up any confusion, I didn't just replace the fuel gauge I replaced the whole cluster ( speedo,tach,temp,and fuel gauge)

At least yourg gage dosent go to almost empty then reverses up to 1/4 tank. Mesed me up the first couple of times. Now with four dollar gas it' teasing me!

i knew what you were talking about, just odd that the gas gauge malfunctioned , it doesnt move a lot , like the tach or speedo. Guess any things possible.

Yea gotta love $40 for 10 gallons. :rolleyes:
