My timing belt broked this morning on the way to work :(

Mechanics wants 1682$ cad with gst to fix it

872$ labour
260$ pars
400$ to get the cylinders out and send them to be inspected ??

They won't do it without the cylinders thing. Do i really need that at 400$ or should i talk to another mechanic ?
I tought that for a non interference engine i would only have to get the belt done.

Take it somewhere else. You shouldn't have to pay more than 400-500 tops.

i agree no need to remove cylinder head!!timing belt, water pump, drive belts if they are worn & possibly belt tensioner should be all you need. 4-6 hrs & about 200 in parts. i also would be looking else where for a repair shop
Good Luck!!!

Thanks guys, i found a guy that wants to do it for 270$ + parts and then do a compression test so i took it to him, should find out tomorow.

Well the guy changed the timing belt and the car starts now but its not burning its fuel right or something, really strong sulfur smell, real potent smell when he hits the throttle. He's keeping it to check a few things and test the compression. I hope he figures it out :(

Hopefully he will recheck the timing belt to be sure he put it on with the timing marks in the right position and maybe use a timing light on it, too. He may have bumped the crankshaft or the camshaft position sensors if they are nearby.

It was the o2 sensor, he just cleaned that and put new spark plugs in as well. Just came back from a test drive, that car has never run that good before :)

I was already shopping for new cars, looks like i can keep that one for a while longer.

If it's a non-interferance engine then they are trying to screw you.

I thought the ZX2 had a timing chain and surpentine drive belt..? My surpentine belt cost me a half an hour and about $100 USD to fix.
