Cruise Control

The cruise control on my 2000 Venture doesn't work. I checked the cable and made sure that it is attached to the throttle. What else should I check to diagnose the problem? Also, which fuse is the one for the cruise control?

make sure all of your brake light are working. this same thing happened about 2 years ago and after i cleaned the sockets and or replaced the brake lights it worked fine. check your light sockets first before spending the money on new bulbs as they may need cleaned. also put some dielectric grease in the sockets before reassembly! let me know what you come up with!!

Already checked the brake lights and they are working properly.

Are your ABS or TCS dash (any of the check engine) lights on? That could mean the infamous short in the harness/connector in the rear brake light assy. This short also sometimes makes the Cruise Control operable.

Check engine light is on, but only code I have is P0440.

I was going to post the same question yesterday but when I saw the OP said they had checked the brake lights and they were working properly I figured that wasn't the issue. I've come across that situation many times, including my own vehicle where this has occurred, and replacing the boards solved the issue and the cruise became operational again. If all else fails and you cannot locate what is causing the cruise to not work I would re-check the boards where the taillights are to make sure there are no signs of a short occurring, or melted plastic, and possibly clean the contact points where the bulbs go into the boards.

I just checked the boards in the tail lights and there is no sign of any short. I pulled all of the bulbs out and checked each one. The contacts all looked clean.

Any other ideas?
