timing

can you tell me when i set timing to put spout back in i see threads guys are getting close to 18 to 21 degrees. Now i also see threads that people leave spout out and set timing to 36 to 38 and lock down distributor and leave spout out is this ok ,i have a highly modified 308 trickflow trackheat and everything else. My question is when setting timing is it allways done at just at idle or do you bring up rpm's and what would it be

If you are gonna lock the timing the yes you can set it at idle. If you are gonna let the timing advance then set it with the spout out. Then plug the spout back in & rev to 3k or so to see where it advances to.

So you think setting it at 38 and locking it would be good or is it the same either way. I will be shooting a 150 shot through the throttle body thats why i was thinking of spout out and locking, so i can take timing out easier, because don't you take timing out from the total and not the base idle when setting it up for nitrous. I no it's 2 degrees for every 50shot.I have it set at 16 now and at the base idle and when i bring revs up to 3000 the total is right around 36 /38 what you think

I think if you run that much timing with that much nitrous you are gonna blow your motor up. I would start with timing set to about 18* total and work your way up from there. Just advance it enough so that it keeps running and doesnt cherry the exhaust.
