I have a new air conditioner fan switch and control unit I need to install in my 96 Tracker but can't figure out how to get the facing that surrounds it and the radio off. I can get the two screws under the ash tray out but can find no others at the top and it won't budge. Anyone know the proceedure to remove it?

I have a '96 2dr 4x4 5sp and my face trim is held on with 2 screws in the ash-tray area and 2 more screws behind the heater/ac switch mech. Remove the various lever knobs (slips off) and gently pry the switch mech housing straight out. There are several built in plastic clips that hold it in place. The two hidden screws are found once the sw mech is loose. You probably won't need to remove the trim as the switch mech will be free /loose enough to replace the switch. Check for burned out light bulb or even replace a good one and you won't have to pull it out later. That is how my tracker is . . . your's may vary. Good luck!

Thanks for the instructions vecterfinder, they were dead on and made the job very easy. Now, if they had only sent the correct module, I'd be all set. :-(

I have a similar issue with my '97. Everything works except for the fan speed selector switch. I had read another post where the poster said his switch casing had separated and, after gluing it back together, it works. So I removed the faceplate and the 4 screws and have the control unit loose in the dash BUT the 2 'ears' the you screw the controls to also block it from being pulled out. Any ideas? I see the switch mounted on the top right corner of the controls.... is it removable from the unit?

Johndilts, it's been a while since I took the A/C panel out and can't remember exactly all the steps involved but I think there is a way to separate the switch from the panel and replace it. It turned out that the panel I got off Ebay was not the correct one and so was not able to get as far as changing the switch out. IIRC, I did remove the switch and attempt to replace it with the switch of the incorrect panel but it wouldn't fit.:runaround:

Im not sure if they all have it but my 95 does, there are 2 plastic screws as well above the directional vents at the top of the stereo bezel and they can be a pain to get out and in. especially if you lose them down the ducting :P
