gas cap

i have some problems with my gas cap. i got this car and its gas cap goes to far in so when i try to pop it with the lever it wont engage it or w.e. to open i have to have my friend to hold it out a little so it will pop.. how will or can i fix that problem???? i tried tape on the inside to have it not go in so far and that doesnt do it.

exactly right. There is a small spring inside the gas cap that pushes it open when your pull the lever. If thats gone then it wont pop open. I beleive I saw a mod on tuners where you could use a paper clip or something to fix it. Might want to check that out also.
