coolant capacity

i just changed the cracked radiator on my uncle's 97 achiva. according to the manual the capacity is 13 quarts with the v6 engine. i just was able to fill it with about 8 quarts & the low coolant light is still on even though the overflow bottle is full. i ran the engine to get it hot & let it cool a few times, & i was only able to get a little more in, but it's still should be down about 4 quarts according to what i put in. what's the problem? is there an air bleed valve somewhere on this car? it seems like there's some air pocket in the cooling system somewhere because i get some air bubbles in the coolant overflow bottle when the engine's running. the bottle's still full, & the low coolant light is still lit after repeated cool hot cycles.

Did you try draining any coolant out of the engine block? Could be air pockets. For air bleeder you should have one either on the thermostat housing or on the top of the water pump where you see that black pipe which is the return line. Hopefully you don't have an intake or head gasket issue.

so that's what that bolt is on that line!! Knowing that would've made my last flush/fill a whole lot easier! How do you use that bleeder? It's not even mentioned in the OEM repair manual!

I had a problem with my light too, but luckily it was just stuck. It must be some type of float because I drained and flushed my system twice over the last couple months soon after getting my '94, and both times the light was on, and I just tapped a bit on the tank right above where the plug goes in and the light went off.

WHY are you hi-jacking someone else's thread?

goto www.autozone.com

"vehicle repair guides" link, a free online manual for you to check

choose your vehicle; get teh isuzu rodeo v-6 3.2 one since they don't have one for the honda... same engine like you stated...

here's the proof that it's there for you to read:

your vehicle easier to "burp" the air bubbles out, since others need to find/open the bleed valve/bolt for their vehicles...
