Hello all,
I have 01 Taurus SES 3.0 V6. Currently it has 109K miles. Last week driving around it was idling so rough it almost shut off. repeatedly. I went to AutoZone for a code check and it said that I needed a new mass air flow sensor. After spending $130 on the device i noticed very little improvment. What else could be wrong.
Any thoughts or commets, please respond.
Thanks,
Tom

HI There,You didnt mention wether you changed plugs or wires yet.Posible causes could be vacume leaks,EGR valve, clogged fuel filter etc. start with the easy stuff first. 02wagon

Do you know what code (in the form of P0123) the car was displaying? If so, please post the exact code, that will help in the diagnostics.
Depending on the code, it may have been stating that air was being introduced after the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. This would essentially be a vacuum leak and would cause the engine to run roughly. I think you should inspect all your vacuum lines and the air intake tubing between the MAF sensor and the throttle body. Also make sure that the EGR valve is not stuck open (another "vacuum leak").
