Check your transmission and transfer case fluid levels first, the problem has probably surpassed that by now though, but it's a start. Next, will the truck move at all?? Reverse, first, etc.??

I noticed this thread kind of stopped short, so I'm hoping I can pick it back up, as I have a similar problem.

Last night, my girlfriend's manual '86 Nissan Pickup started having a little bit of a problem with the clutch; all of a sudden she had to start pushing the clutch all the way to the floor (about twice as far as usual) in order to get it into gear. The gears still felt fine, it was just like the clutch became less responsive.

This morning, she got a couple of blocks away from home, and couldn't get the truck into 1st gear after coming to a stop. I tried it out, and the clutch has no effect on getting into any gear. I can force it into 3rd and 4th gears (when the clutch is pressed), but 1st and 2nd aren't working. Of course, trying to put it into reverse just grinds. I didn't try 5th gear.

The odd thing is, once it's in 3rd or 4th gears, after painstakingly getting it up to a decent speed, the clutch works like normal, as long as I don't try to change gears. I can press the clutch to take it out of gear or rev the engine like there was nothing wrong with it.

We really don't have much money at the moment to get it repaired professionally; does anyone have any pointers or has anyone had this problem before? Help!
