hey everybody, i just bought this as a beater car to learn to drive 5-speed. test drive a yesterday and the clutch is really tight, needs possibly adjusted. the car has oil sludge built-up on the side of the motor, im guessing it needs new valve cover gaskets. which brings t some questions on maintenance.
1-what part number is for the valve cover gasket at places such as advanced auto/pep boys? would that stop the oil leak assuming thats where its coming from?
2-how many quarts of oil does the motor take as well as a part number for the oil filter? the oil when i checked it was black *blah*
3-im going to check the tranny oil and i understand theres the drain and also a fill plug. whats the general oil to use when i drain out the old oil via the drain plug? also when i refill i should fill it via the fill plug but should the drain plug also be left open so i know where the level is at?
4-whats the stock idle on the 1.8L?
5-the 1.8L is known as the 4G37?

THANKS!!!!

Just answer a few of your questions.

The 1.8L is known as the 4g37

It holds 4 quarts of oil and takes a 2950 Fram oil filter

My 1.8 idles at about 800 rpm

I would call the dealer for any valve cover numbers

I hope you have good luck with your Eclipse my 1.8 has 320 thousand miles on it uses some oil but it still running strong...knock on wood

thankas, however i just found out that my ECU fried >.<. now im trying to find another ECU replacement but unsure if the non-turbo 1gen 5-speed ECUs are interchangeable. if so are there any wires needed to swap or relocate b/t the different years?

im converting my 94 1.8L to EV, so if the ECU is compatible, you can by mine.

make me an offer
