Odd & Assorted Questions for Metroglodites

Thought I'd start a thread for wierd, odd, almost trivial questions where one
needs help, but it isn't any big emergency.

Like this.....

What could one use as a substitute for those little plastic stickers to put in
the upper left corner of the windshield to remind one when to change the oil?

Schucks sometimes has them as freebies, but not of late.

Right now I am using a piece of Scotch Tape - which will leave some sticky
crud later on.

Something like Saran Wrap only thicker...(?)


Is there some way to make my passenger side rear view mirror stop slowly rotating
downward when I drive over bumps? The mirror with the black plastic hood
on each door.

I guess the adjustment "ball" behind the mirror is worn out. Is there some way
to make it be tighter?

How do you get at the backend of those mirrors?

DoctorBill I am not sure mirror can be fixed if the ball behind the mirror is toast. You can buy after market mirrors fairly reasonable.

I simply write the oil change mileage right on the glass with a Sharpie on my car or steal a sticker from work. Comes right off with a little brake cleaner or ether on a rag.

I have a mirror shell out in the garage that a deer decided to remove for me the day after I got my Metro and it looks like the plastic simply wears out making the mirror drop. From the way it looks, the mirror just "pops" out of the housing and maybe it can be glued permanent from there?

The mirror just pops out. I may be worth while to take it out and clean it up. a little tape or plastic on the ball may tighten it up as well.

I just change my oil every 5,000 miles, no need to write anything down. 5K, 10K, 15K, 20K, even the feeble minded (me) can remember that. It's more often than recommended, nice and simple.

for the oil change reminder I keep a little notebook on the console and write the milage everytime I change the oil and the miles every time I fill up so I can keep track of it all and get the mpg.

It is a strong and thick plastic - feels "leathery" to the touch.

Anyone reading this who knows something about plastic sheeting?

Is it a coating or some type of treatment made to make the plastic "polar" ?

A Chemist wants to know....(learn).

I'd like to buy a square foot of it for oil changes on all four of our vehicles.

Great minds think alike, Johnny. This is exactly what I do.



Doc: About the mirror sag. I pop the mirrors out of their housing, and stick a small wad of paper into the socket, then pop the mirror back into the housing. This helps, for a time, but is not a permanent solution.
