Heres a topic everyone is thinking about. I really would like to know where you guys would stand up and draw the line? 5,6,10 bucks a gallon? where is the point where you would say i can't fucking afford this shit. Some have already reached this point. bussiness owners that rely on there trucks or cars to carry out there bussiness are in a rut and nearing bankruptcy. I recently saw the news and a dude that ownes a land scaping bussiness is paying 800 dollars a week in gas for his dump truck. Heres a thought in the past ten yrs gas prices have gone from 90 cents to $4.10. minimum wage has gone from $5.15 to 7.15 just recently. This means someone making minimum wage must work nearly 6 hrs at there job to fill a small ten gallon tank. Back ten yrs ago you could fill that same tank with 9 dollars which was about 1hr and 45 minutes at 5.15 an hr. The average person has to work over 3 times longer to fill the same tank these days:shakehead . If your job said to you, hey we are going to have you work 3 weeks for 1 weeks pay, would you tolerate that? Quit busting your ass to fill your car with gas and take a stand.. If a large group of ppl across the world didn't buy gas for a day that would leave a big impression to these greedy oil companies. We are supposed to sit here and believe that in ten yrs we have nearly used up all of the worlds crude oil? thats it we are running low now so you have to pay 4 times as much. yea right theres no way in hell we used up that much in ten yrs. Cars have been running off crude oil for nearly 100yrs, but in the last ten we used most of it? Bullshit. what are your thoughts and where is your limit?:banghead:

I can afford it, but I'm not happy. I'm going to buy an econobox before long. The oil CEO's in my opinion, should be hanged for profiteering against their fellow citizens. No mercy, no questions asked. 30 million a year for an oil CEO while most people struggle to fill their tanks is BULLSHIT. But, as evil and greedy as these people are, they aren't alone in this mess. The fuckin towel-heads in the middle east need to be tortured until death for increasing the price of oil to $130 a barrel. That is OPEC and their hatred for America and Western society. the EPA, Greenpeace, and the Sierra Club all need a fuckin kick in the nuts for preventing us from drilling in the Northern Slope, and other various reserves. Do you realize that we are prohibiting ourselves from drilling just off the coast of Florida, but CHINA is drilling there? THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT AND IT NEEDS TO FUCKING STOP RIGHT FUCKING NOW!

Other than that, he has no strong opinions on the matter.

I agree that the middle east is a big part of the problem, but we are all accountable for allowing this to happen. As soon as some one said now it's 50 bucks a barrol, the correct response should have been, fuck you and blow me. I think that high gas prices are a world wide issue, not just our problem. ppl in britan pay more then we do for gas. Heres the thing though, even if we didn't rely on other countries for oil, oil would still be expensive. the reason is someone had the balls to charge so much for it and everyone just went along with it. we assume that what they tell us is true. that prices will drop again, that there is a shortage, oh we lost two platforms in hurrican katrina, oh we are on bad terms with the middle east so we are expecting a hike in prices. It's all excuses. back in 91 we were at war during desert storm and gas prices stayed steady. in a time where more oil was needed to fuel our stupid tanks and jeeps, or even our 67 ton war ships, with f 16's on them. Now everytime something happens in the media oil companies jump on the oportunity to relate the issue with oil. Uncle fred died so gas jumped 30 cents. whats that the economy is doing well, lets raise the price of gas, we can't leave money in the average joes pocket it has to be thrown back into the economy. Funny thing is that we are now all awaiting a stimulous check from G.W. in order to prevent a resession cause not enough ppl are throwing money around anymore. ppl are holding on to it saving for normal shit like food or clothing. why is this? because it costs 130 bucks a week to fill my fucking SUV! The government rather send you a check for 600 bucks then regulate ridiculous gas prices that are obviously crippling our nation. I certainly have felt the serious effects of the oil situation. i deliver pizza two nights a week. i used to throw in 15 bucks and go friday through sunday and have gas left over. times were good and i got to keep all my tips. Now i drop 10 bucks everytime i deliver and the tips i make go back into the gas tank when i'm done. i really make no profit and the only reason i still work there is because i like the ppl i work with and in the future i may need this job if my full time goes south.

I was just thinking... Freakin middle eastern ppl are the most problamatic ppl on earth. they fight eachother over freakin holy land, try to take over neighboring nations, and are constanlty terrorising the entire world. why haven't we wiped these ppl out yet. these ppl are the scum of this earth and need to be wiped out already. they are like inhumane peaces of smelly garbage with no souls or meaning. just fucking wipe them out! Don't be pissed cause you live in a tent in the middle of the desert cause you fucking chose to live there. We have deserts in american but we don't live in them. these ppl are such a dumb bunch. just fucking end them!

i agree that something needs to be done.
i voted that i would pay 5-6, but really its no more than 5.

part of it is the huge profit that people are making, the other part is the economy.
our economy is in the shitter, and unless gas goes down, i cant see it going anywhere any time soon.
we will have to see what happens long term, but for now, im pissed that i have to pay 4.10 a gallon just to get to work.
granted, im getting better mileage in the camaro than my caprice ever did, but its still bullshit.

Really I think its straight up ridiculous. I remember paying a hair under 1.00 a gallon. Now it has to over 4 times that amount. It's straight up ridiculous and needs to stop. Everyone blames it on the war or the shortage of oil. That is not the case at all. The oil industry has become over the top greedy because they know people can't live without it now. I can't stand greed... Grrr....

I don't really see how this isn't price gouging. We don't have much of a choice. I tried to trade my car in on a Prius. Trust me, it's WAY cheaper for me to keep mine and keep getting 18 mpg on the few miles I have to drive to work. And driving the prius made me want to slit my wrists. We need some of the little diesel cars they have in the UK.

Well, needless to say, I don't have much to add to what has already been expressed. Its straight up rape at the pump. The problem is that the demand elasticity for gasoline is so HIGHLY inelastic, that we don't have a choice but to pay what the supplier is asking. That's partly why the prices are the way they are. Its not like soap where if some company decided to raise their price for soap to $10 a bar, no one would buy it, the company would get the hint, and lower prices. People in general are so dependent on gasoline right now, that we pay what they want at the pump, or inconvienence ourselves to find alternative ways to get around. And yes, a lot of it has to do with greed. A remember hearing a report a few years ago where Exxon Mobil netted profits in excess of $41 BILLION. Now that's ridiculous. From the last economy report I read, US demand for oil has leveled off, so at the end of summer, they estimate that the prices may decline after the end of summer. But I don't know.

we should all switch over to liquid propane for fuel. or hack the oil company ceo's bank accounts.

yea this is crazy. You hear all over the news how no one is traveling this summer and ppl are starting to car pool or take buses. We are allowing some punk ceo to push us around and change our lives. I think gas should be like milk. There are certain limits to how much can be charged for milk, same should apply to crude oil. America needs to become self relighant on gas. we need to cut the shit and drill in our own country. Look at alaska it has the highest percentage of free, availible, land then any other state. hardly anyone lives up there. i say start drilling, who gives a shit if we ruin a small portion of land. like theres isn't a ton of it left. I can't believe we would burden our own lives to worry about some gay wild life. We obviously ruined everyother state. We already have the oil line up there so why not use the land to strengthen our country. Theres no reason why a gallon of gas should cost anymore then a buck, especially these days with more efficent cars. Gas in theory should had been more expensive back in the 60's,70's, and 80's when ppl were driving around those huge cars that got 8mpg. them lincolns, and caddy's that weighed 6000lbs. These days we have cars that get 40mpg, so gas should be less in demand. I seriously feel that these CEO's have no morals or care for anyone.:headshake

Sounds like some of you need to do some research before you buy in to the liberal controlled media facts about the evil oil companies. Others seem to have an idea whats going on. Would you like to hear and interesting fact? The big evil oil companies make $.08-$.09 off of a gallon of gas. The Federal Gov makes .18 off of a gallon of gas. Why don't you ask congress why they need more than the oil companies? Since the oil companies are the ones drilling, the ones exploring and doing all the work, yet make less off a gallon of gas than the Gov. NY state makes .60 off a gallon of gas! But NO, NO, NO the oil companies must be punished.

It is the oil industry who wishes to drill domestically to increase supply to lower the demand therefore lowering the prices and ending our dependency on expensive foreign oil. It's also the same oil industry who wants to build more refineries and increase our refining capacity to further lower the cost of gas.

Who is standing in their way? It is precisely the Liberal left and the environmentalists wackos stopping the oil companies from doing there job. They keep talking of this magical green fuels and alternative fuels, well we do not have them right now. Do we need research and development for them? Sure as hell do, but in the short term we must use our domestic oil supplies and end dependence on highly priced foreign oil. We have massive reserves all over the country, from ANWR, to the oil shale out west, to massive oil deposits in North/South Dakota, Montana, off the coast of California and in the Gulf. But all of these have been rendered off limits by the far left through legislation.

The problem is our corrupt politicians not the oil companies. The left and the enviro wackos want to bring this country down. They believe we are using too much of the Earths resources and are pillaging and being unfair to the other countries. The socialist left also wants to bring Capitalism down and even America with the rest of the world. The super high gas prices is one avenue for them to reach this goal.

You are in need some eye opening, please research the problem and stop buying in to the lefts propaganda.

Your Government is the one ripping you off, and thats the truth. Right now, investors are driving up the cost of oil, nothing else. Its going to be like the dot.com bubble and the housing market. In time(how long = ?) it will pop and come back down.

Don't worry though, I keep telling my friends and truely believe before the end of my lifetime, another revolution is coming. Take it to the bank.

oh i figured the government was behing it also. they are the biggest liars known to man. it's kinda like i said, these gas prices are whats ruining our country, and we get a 600 stimulas check to patch things up. duh, thats like gas money for a couple weeks. the government is in on it, this whole thing is a huge world wide conspiracy and non of it is going to end until we the ppl make a stand. A stand for everything these ppl have done to us and will do to us. A riot is not out of the question at this point.

I live in central MA and every year around July 4th there is a usually 5 day long Summer Nationals car show with all sorts of events day & night around the city. Last year there were 6000 vehicles & 200000 people. This year expecting 4,500 cars and has been shortened to 3 days because of gas prices limiting how far people will come from. This will be an economic hit to the area.

one thing that a lot of people are doing is working four 10hr days instead of five 8hr days.
saves gas.

it sucks though, because all of a sudden we have to completely alter everything about what we do.

gas is my biggest expense.
more than RENT
this is bad
bad bad bad

I'm going to ask my boss tomorrow about letting me work 4 10's rather than 5 days a week. Not only will it save on gas, but it'll give me an extra free day too. lol

06-05-2008, 08:57 AM
thats not an option for me. gas is gonna hit the 5 dollar mark this summer, and i'm not gonna be able to afford that. i drive a saturn and i spend at least 160 dollars in gas a month, i'm sure it's more like 200. This is crazy, can you imagine next yr around this time it will probably cost 6 bucks a gallon! it goes up a buck a yr now days.

Well, my car has almost been parked for 2 weeks now. I'm finding other ways to get around. I will not buy this gas anymore.

daveshapellSVT
06-06-2008, 09:46 AM
thats what we need to do stop buying gas. If a big group of ppl across the country did this, i am sure they will find a way to brink gas prices down. I want gas prices to be below 2 dollars like it was when i was 18. If gas were that cheap i'd start buying more car parts!
