Hey,
After finishing my Levin, i've choosen to start another Fujimi kit and old one...

It's a 1988 kit:
http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/5531/img0022np4.jpg

It is a very simple kit, with no great details and very simple instructions.

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/2047/img0026et9.jpg

I have already bid a donor kit from Ebay and some detail parts in order to make this Samurai more interesting!

A very first moch up (it doesnt look that interesting...does it?):

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5378/img0029bz3.jpg

My plans are to make something like these:

http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6357/147qv0.jpg

Hope to make it right and enjoy this build!

Thank you for your time stay tuned :bigthumb:

Hey all!

Long time no see, but im still waiting to receive my huge order of goods for the kit. (Hopefully soon i will have them...)

Anyway, in order to keep me in shape:tongue: i've done some minor work, such as sanding, puttying, sanding again, open holes on the bonnet for racing clips, remove the plastic front grills and those of the top of the hood and finally....i've started to work on the snorkel:evillol:

I made two possible version and i need your opinion on which is better...

Version 1:

From plastic sprue, i've measured the lenghts and the angles and i made the following. Needs some cutting on the top and a hole.

http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/3558/img0093hc0.jpg
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/6098/img0094oz0.jpg
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/3001/img0095eh3.jpg

Version 2:

Bented wire....

http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/3517/img0097jk6.jpg
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/1876/img0098os7.jpg
http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/869/img0099ar3.jpg

I think i prefer the first option...seems more close to scale and more realistic...please let me know your opinion:)

Next update as soon as i have my stuff delivered!
Thank you for your time:thumbsup:

Might be an interesting project.... but neither one of the snorkel ideas look the part, TBH. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to make realistic snorkels in 1/24 scale. Here is my first attempt from two years ago: Subaru Legacy

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/SUBARU/Legacy_Wagon/IMG_0843_small.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/SUBARU/Legacy_Wagon/IMG_0844_small.jpg

http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t169/voyageur_AF/scale_modeling/cars_WIP/SUBARU/Legacy_Wagon/IMG_0847_small.jpg

I used Evergreen tube and the top part of a Unimog snorkel. Today I wouldn't use this part, but rather a scratch build part similar to the ones from Safari Snorkels (http://www.safarisnorkel.com). I am currently building a snorkel for the Aoshima Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero (no pics yet).

Do a bit of research first. Google Samurai engine bay and Samurai snorkel. Make a plan where the whole needs to be and bend your rod accordingly. Nothing looks more wrong on a scale model than a snorkel that is too small/big.

Have fun experimenting, I usually need five or six tries to get it the way I want it. Be patient... it's worth it!

Cheers

Hey guys!

My first delivery done and is full of pe and metal parts
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/9489/img0221ag0.jpg

I'm waiting 2 more deliveries and the project will fire up!

Until then...i followed your opinion and after a lot of measuring i finaly made the snorkel. it looks like this, and i think it's the best choice! Please let me know!

Then i start modifiy this part of the car which i dont know how you call it in english :uhoh: really sorry...plz let me know....
I made holes in the air intakes for the wiring of the gauges, and i've also made a hole in the place of the car lighter for the wiring of the GPS. Additionaly, i cut out the codriver handle cause i didn't like it at all and will either make a new one from wire or i wont put anything...

Hey mates,

a litte update from the suspension system and the dash.

Suspension:

I took the LSD system from a donor kit and after cutting & sanding a made it to this. I left only the basis for the the custom suspension system that im gonna build. Here is in the first stage of putting.

A small update...

Starting with the custom differentials
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/8638/img0259vo8.jpg
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/2060/img0263qk0.jpg
The aftermaket suspension that i've ordered, were to small for the project...
http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/1275/img0261dj8.jpg

So, with lots of sprues and wire i made mine...after the first attemp here how it looks...

Im anxious to see more!!! I gotta say that it looks like its a little too high, maybe like 2 or 3mm lower and itll look better.

Souplaman
07-18-2008, 04:52 AM
@ MidMazar: you are right about the susp! so...

I have shorten the suspension cause it was way to high and glue it on the differentials. The front suspension on the one side is pressed cause in the diorama, the "Sam" will have stepped on an obstacle (rock or tree...)

Here in the procedure of measuring and center the 2 systems...
http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/5324/img0069ae7.jpg

And on the Sam...
http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/5707/img0068dr3.jpg

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/6281/img0072ac7.jpg
http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/1695/img0075io2.jpg

Then i made the transmission system with the center diff from parts of two donor kits and the actual one...
http://img235.imageshack.us/img235/1589/img0076yg9.jpg
I still have to build the basis for all the diffs..

Thats for now...Thank you for your time!!

A little update from the rear suspension. I made the springs from wire and some parts from the base that keeps the diff in place.

http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/6610/img0199jy6.jpg
http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/287/img0200dq8.jpg

Then i closed the hole of the oil catridge.

I;ve detailed up the disc brakes, by making little holes for the wiring:
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1572/img0255qm8.jpg

Lastly, i've used an old Heller bucket, that i've sanded the moulded harnesses and drilled it out, in order to use a set of Sparcos.

An update:

I used a mix from 2 kits in order to finish the diff system. It needs some more job and it would be fine!

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/4264/img0267ek3.jpg

http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/6389/img0273ur1.jpg
http://img228.imageshack.us/img228/60/img0274wz8.jpg

Then i've decided to open the drivers door, in order to help me for the scenery of the followig dio. This of course means a lot of detailing in the interior.

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/404/img0264yv9.jpg

Then i made the racing fuel tank, that i've detached from the main kit, used a lilttle weight from a lighter and a pe set:

This bad boy is certainly coming along. There is a guy in town here who has a Samurai that can damn-near go through anything. This reminds me of his.

One thing that I would recommend for accuracy, mount the transfer case sideways and extend driveshafts. Clearance is your friend off road and the way yours drops would scare me out of taking it through anything too rough. Also, skidplates are your friends. A skidplate over the transfer case would be more realistic as that's the last thing you want to break in the middle of nowhere.

But nonetheless, it's definitely coming along great and I can't wait to see it finished.

And here is the progress of the dio:

I had in mind something similar to this:

I used many "muddy" techniques for this!

Masking:

First put on the basis:

Looks nasty, in a good way!

What did you use to paint on the mud? I want to do some slight weathering too but nothing as crazy as what you did, just the usual look on cars being driven on road in the winter with salt, some dirt, etc.

Thank you!

I used the Vallejo water effect paste, mixed with Vallejo Air Mud Brown and i spread it with brush and sticks.
