Well driving home from work last night, the brakes started to get very soft. Luckly I did not hit anyone. The tow bill was $243 to get the car home.
Does anyone know of a place that has the metal brake line pre-formed. Called the stealerships and that is a part that is not carried as pre-fromed. The drivers side rear is what failed. If not, is there a tool that will bend the small diameter brake line. This in on a 97 Grand Prix 3.8 series 2. Had to play hookie from work today. Have to get the acetlene out the flare nut to the rubber house fitting will not break free. Have soaked it with pb buster and no luck. Also had to get another set of flare wrenches did not have 12mm and 13mm. BTW I am in the Chicagoland area.

i'm not to sure they are available preformed.using the straight brake line & form it yourself.you can buy a bending tool but the lines are cant kink.if the line is froozen at the caliper use your line wrench you're not worried about it breaking & as long as you get it out of the caliper you should be ok same thing on other end of line
Good Luck!!!

Had to use a acetylene torch to remove the fitting that connects to rubber hose fitting that goes to the caliper. That was an adventure it self. No the lines are not pre-formed. 30" too short and 40" to long. The fittings are metric and the flare is what is called a bubble flare, a new one on me. I have another problem now. Used the 30" and was able to get the fitting to catch. Now the brake line that runs to the front of the car has a pin hole. The brake line is 3/16" is there a way to splice a two pieces of brake line together with like a high pressure compression fitting. I also have another issue, the brake lines from the front have a male fitting for the left side and a female fitting for the right side.

You can get 3/16" brake line in a roll, you have to get fittings this way.Mastercool makes the best flaring tool and puts the hand version to shame. It costs close to $400.00 and is worth the money if you do lot of brake lines saving you time over the manual version.Do not use a compression fitting, will blow apart under pressure and is not a good idea for brake systems

I should have said fittings. The driver side has a female fitting where the line from the caliper connects to and the passenger side is female fitting. There is no way I can justify that cost for the flare tool. How much is the manual flaring tool cost. I will have to get male and female fittings, where is the Chicagoland area can I get the flaring tool and fittings. I have found a area on the brake line that I can cut and reflare that is clean. I would place a new connector on and relare the brake line. Can I use a union and 2 female fittings.

not sure if i understand.female fitting at rubber hose(line will screw into)
the other end connects to caliper...right?? the fitting/unions should be available where you get the lines.you should be able to bend/mold line without tool.Good luck

The other end that connects to the caliper is called the banjo fitting and the other end of the rubber hose a female bubble fitting. The line that is formed has 2 male bubble flare fittings one goes the rubber hose and the other male bubble fitting goes to the length of tubbing that comes from the master cylinder, and that tubbing has a female bubble fitting and ends by the front of the gas tank at the back of the car. So what has happened now there is another hole in the line that runs from the master cylinder back to the rear of the car. From what I can see there is two or maybe three sections that is coming from the master cylinder. I have found a place that is local the has the bubble flare tool. I will call tomorrow to see if there is any in stock.

I called the stealership, for the pricing on the bubble flare fittings and they wanted close to $10 apiece for the fittings. I have found a local area auto parts store that has the flare fittings for about $4.00 each. After the wife is done with her appointments I will be running to the auto parts store, and picking up the parts. I will be done with the brakes at least. Then it will be off to the junkyard for a rear suspension piece. Don't know it is called, but it is the bar that connects to the car frame and to strut mounting bracket. This is the bar that move up and down with strut.

Well the brakes are done but unfortunally I had no choice but to use compression fittings. The auto parts store, that I called lied :banghead: about about making custom brake lines so had no choice. I had aready cut the lines.

I once changed out a starter motor in 45 degree freezing rain in the parking lot of safeway in fort saskatchewan back in 06'.
I just finished driving across the entire country and had $300 to my name.
Belive me i feel your pain.

I replaced a starter on chevy citation in 20 below zero weather, so my friend would not get stiffed by the garage. She had gotten ripped off by a garage earlier that year for a simple brake job.
