Hi Vric!
did you already order from HLJ before?? Because I live in Quebec. I want to know if you have order something from them if it's good.

They are very dependable, surface-air shipping (SAS) is relativaly fast and cheap.
But sometimes the customs will make you pay something like 8$ for a regular car kit. I don't think they would char duty on PE parts or Decals because they are identified as "printed matter".
I've ordered maybe 5 or 6 items and it never really go any more expensive then what I pay here in Montréal, (exept when they charge duty, so far it happened once).

No, I ordered from SAS (scale auto style), and got 10$ of custom fees... 5$ the second time.
Maybe i'm not lucky, but I always pay custom fees.. usually it's 5$ + 15% of the total ordering. so it's quite expensive when you think you already pay 30$ for shipping then 20$ of customs.. 50$ of shipping charge, it's quite insane for 3 kit !!
oh and I forgot.. I already pay 175$ of customs fees for a PDA from California :D and the PDA cost me 250$ so imagine !

hey vric
you do know udisco ships?!?!
the only problem is they won't have the Aoshima RX-7 Veilside.
a note on Canada customs for all fellow Canadians. I believe that the amount charged depends on the declared value of your shipment. I've ordered from HLJ twice and my third order is on the way. This is how it happend.
(Canadian Dollars)
1st time.
Just as a trial i kept the order small. Ordered 2 sets of rims.
Merchandise Total: 15$
Shipping Charge: 8.50$
Customs: 0$
declared value (shown on box by HLJ) 11$
total cost for me: 23.50$
2nd time.
This was a larger order, 2 1/24 kits. and 4 sets of rims.
Merchandise Total: 67.77$
Shipping Charge: 18.57$
Customs: 16.25$
declared value (shown on box by HLJ) 76.26
total cost for me.: 102.92$
Now why the declared value is different from the actual price i'm paying beats me. But what i understand, is that if the declared value of an item is less than 20$ than there is no custom fee.(hence my first order) In addition if it is shipped as a "gift" /"present" there are no customs fees aswell. But what are the chances you get HLJ to send you a gift...
On a final note, if you live in Montreal,(or anywhere else in Canada) then the price you'll pay for plastic kits shipped from HLJ(including ALL fees) it will end up being either less expensive or the same price as purchasing in local stores. IMO the advantage you get from ordering from Japan, is their masive selection.
Hope that helps. :)

guys i have already posted this before
Customs Charges for Canada
Orders below 20 dollars, NO CHARGE
Orders above 20 dollars, $5 dollars handling fee + 7%GST + PST whatever it is in your province.
If it's a gift, it must be less than $60 CDN, other wise you pay tax on Declared price subtract $60.
Got it? simple.
Sometimes canada customs forget about the 60 gift thing. I've received gifts declared at over 100 dollars and no charge :)

Does that mean if Vric buys an Enzo for me from clates, and I buy an Enzo for Vric from clates, then neither of us have to pay customs nor taxes if less than $60, right? Given I'm in Toronto and Vric's somewhere in Quebec?

Vric, your are wrong. If it's Declared as Gift, and the declared value is less than $60CDN, then there is no duty/taxes on it.
If the declared value is more than $60 then you pay tax on (declared price subtract $60).

There used to a time when HLJ was cool...around 2 years ago. I ordered $70+ worth of Gundam models, and HLJ declared the package was worth $23. As a result, the amount of tax I paid was peanuts.

o.. thanks for the hints guys. never know they charge duty over 20.
did u try hobby search?
the reason i order from japan is becaz there's a larger selection and the price i pay here in vancouver for a single model with tax is more expensive then ordering online. It's like there's only 2 models shop i can find in vancouver
