2000 Sonata pings! a lot! any help?

Help! My 2000 Sonata, 2.4 4cyl. auto pings pretty bad, especially under light acceleration. Ive tried highest octane gas at the pump, but it doesnt seem to help much, if any. I cant imagine this car requiring more than than the 87 octane stuff anyways. Any advise is greatly appreciated!
