well, where do i start? my check engine light came on about 2 weeks ago. i'm at about 144,060. there is nothing wrong with the way the car runs or drives, everything works and everything was right.

fortunately at my job, a co-worker had a code scanner, unfortunately, it was the wrong one, but the scanner cleared the check engine light. well now the cel is has been back on for about the last 4 days. again, the car runs and operates normally and everything seems fine, nothing seems off and the motor sounds real good (as in timing sounds good/ no misses/ or anything out of the ordinary)

well thats problem 1, problem 2 is that today my o.d off indicator light came on and began blinking. why i have no idea. since i got the car i've always drove with the o.d on (was this bad?????)

well i had my father look at my car for me, and he told me that your only supposed to have o.d on when driving on the highway. btw i have a 97 s.s with the aeod trans and every option available except a carriage top if that helps any (note: aeod= automatic electronic overdrive)

so does that mean that every time i get in my car, unless i go on the freeeway, that i'm supposed to turn off the overdrive??? also, the trans seems to be shifting smoothly and on time, the fluid level and condition are both on point, i'm thinking theres an electrical problem some where as the motor and trans seem to be tip top. all and any help is greatly appreciated

Hello, No, you do not have to turn the Overdrive off everytime you go somewhere. As far as the Engine Light and The OD Flashing, there are most likely one in the same problem. Just b/c the engine light comes on doesn't mean that there is always a problem with the engine. It can be the Transmission. In your case thats what it is. When the OD Flashes, that means that there is a problem with the transmission. You should take it into the shop so they can tell you more in detail whats going on.. Hope this helps..

Hey Jason..
You can also have those codes read at your local parts store.. most will do it for free hoping to secure future business.

Call around if in doubt.

Hey Steven, well at my store, we can't read Trans codes, even if its the engine light that comes on.. Now isn't that weird...

Hi Jason

What did you end up doing about those brake lines?

j.y.d, the brake lines have long been fixed, just clipped the old ones, ran the new ones and got them all hooked up, and secured to the frame with metal pan ties, it really worked out nice because there was a little spot on the underside of the body i was able to tuck them up in.

well some good news is the cel went away yesterday, and the o.d off light stopped blinking, but today the o.d off light started blinking again. it really is quite strange tho because the trans is working fine, as in it sounds good, shifts smoothly through all gears in and out, theres no vibrations or loud humming etc., like i said whatever is wrong is really beyond me, my thinking is that there has to be an electrical problem somewhere, because as smooth and quiet everything functions and runs, there sure aren't any tell tale signs or symptoms besides the light.
