Gas Mileage

I have a 1999 blazer with the 4.3 v6 and i am currently getting about 13 miles to the gallon.... what is the best bang for my buck to get better gas mileage?

Your best bang for buck is going to be spent on figuring out where the loss is first, and then correct/change that part/parts.

If you give us some details perhaps someone can help diagnoise it. 13 isn't real great. It isn't normal for hiway , but it might be normal for very heavy city stop and go driving.

Some helpful details would include any non-standard options, tires, driving terrain, load, style, gasoline, maintainence/mods,reepairs faults,miles, and your testing procedure.

13 is a little low, even for all city driving. I'm getting about 15mpg and most of my driving is shorter trips. Before you start upgrading anything, have you done a tune up recently? Fluids (diffs, trans, t-case) changed? If its 4wd, make sure that all vac lines are good and its not stuck in 4wd. Maintain correct tire pressure also. If everything mechanically checks out, you could install a few bolt on parts and get the pcm tuned to squeeze a bit more mpg out of the motor. These days every mpg counts.

Car runs on water! I didn't believe it till I saw it for myself. This guy says it doubles your gas mileage..

Water in a cylinder is bad,rusts up and seizes up engine.The S10 blazers get crappy MPGs since the 4.3 is a gas hog.The gas saving devices do not work at all and Consumers Reports did a test on them.They said you are wasting your money on them.

The water for gas thing does work, but not to the full extent of the ads. I know of a few people who have used them successfully, but most get about a 20% increase in economy. That means you start off at about 16 MPG and go up to about 19 MPG. I know of a guy who put it on a lawn tractor, a carbbed engine, and he uses about 1/2 the gas he used to on his lot. Also, this is not a new idea. It has been around for more then 100 years, and there are several patents issued on the different ideas. The one in the ad posted though does not replace gasoline, it just pulls the hydrogen from the water and sucks it through a vacuum line.

The EPA and the federal government tested the water for gas and there is one problem.It voids a vehicle's warranty if it has one.

i have a 96 blazer with water methenol injection and it increased my gas milege by 2 miles per gallon and a little power but not much. but i also live at 5100 hundred feet there is no such thing as good gas milege up here.

What is your mileage and tune up end.
When was the last tune up?
Any check engine lights?
Egr valve working?
Good fuel pressure?

A good AC-delco set of sparks is one of the first things to help.
