I have been working on doing a Timing belt/Tune up, since I discovered an leak from the engine. It happens to be the Water Pump, so While I am in there, I was going to change the accessory belts, timing, as well as the tensioner pulley.
I had a question about the timing marks (TDC). I found a couple of web sites that have the instructions on how to peform the timing belt tune up. The web sites are more for the DOHC/Turbo engine. I realize the concept is almost the same, but I'm not certain about the timing marks. I followed all their instructions, and I have marked the current state of the sprockets on the old timing belt. Do I need to leave them in the state their in, or do I need to turn the sprocket until they both line up (12 o'clock).. I don't have the manual, and it will take about a week to get it if I order it. I like to go ahead and complete this job, since this vehicle is used for my everyday commute..
I would "again" appreciate any feedback/suggestions/documentation...
Thanks,

Unfortunetly I have already removed the belt. Although I did mark the timing marks on the old belt, I still want to make sure I am doing it correctly. The cam Gears have not moved since I removed the belt.
Thanks for your feedback.

Get a manual. The job isnt super tough on a SOHC but the manual will save immense time and headache.

Does anyone have a diagram of the SOHC timing mark or a page from the workshop manual? I have ordered the CD version, but I won't get it in till mid next week.. I like to try to work on the car. I finally got my Water Pump in, so I can go ahead and install it.
Thanks

well, I finally got the timing belt installed, with new water pump, tensioner pulley, and new accessory belts.
I also changed the spark plugs, and the cables...
Now I've got a new problem....when I try to start the car, it appears that fuel is not being pumped/turned on, etc...
So, I was wondering if there is some type of fuse, Cut off switch for the fuel pump.
I placed a test tool on end of each plug wire, and I was able to see sparks coming out of each.
This particual engine (SOHC) does have distributor cap vs. the DOHC.
Any suggestion would greatly be appreciated.
