I have a 1977 MGB - the screw that hold the locking fork and the lock cylinder backed out and dropped into the truck - so the trunck is locked from the outside --
Is there a way to unlock the latch fromteh outside - like using a bent wire end or something simialr --
Or do I have to pull the back seat and go at it that way??
any diagram would be helpfull
Thanks

Sir, You mention about pulling out the back seat? MGBs have no back seat! Is your car a MGBGT?

I had the same thing happen when installing a new lock assembly. I removed the backup light assembly and fabricated a light bulb, 1 1/2 or 12 volt, with just wires attached and put it through one of the holes. With a small mirror and coat wire, with a hook at one end , I was able to release the latch.
Hope this helps.
