my boyfriend has a '98 chevy blazer and the transmission no longer works. he found a '96 chevy blazer transmission, but isn't sure if it would be ok to put it in his '98. if someone knows whether this can be done or not, let me know or give advice. thanx!!

Best to check a salvage yard interchange book.
Are they both 2 or 4w drives and same engine?
There has been a lot of valve body and solenoids changes from a 96-98.
Is his old transmission fixable or what is it doing or not doing?

I have a '00 Blazer, and told that years 95-04 had to be replaced with exact years. I have a feeling that was to do with the valve body. Like MT said, what's the dealio with the existing one? Reason I had to look into it was because we lost 2nd, 4th, and reverse gears. Wound up pulling the trans apart and replacing the reaction sun shell. They have a nasty problem with them stripping out or breaking the gear clean off. The disassembly was not too bad, and think we spent $50 on the sun shell, and another $100 for clutches and seals. We replaced the clutches because it was open - 1st gear and second gear get the most abuse.

Hope that helps!!
