I don't really know exactly where to put this, so I'll post it here. If I were to buy a car online that was in Japan, what processes do I have to go through to get it to the U.S.? If it's right hand drive, how much of a problem will that pose here in the states?

Google's your friend. I'd start here:

http://www.customs.gov/xp/cgov/travel/clearing/automobiles.xml

I've seen right hand drive vehicles on occasion...I'd think it would be up to the individual traffic laws for your state, so since states differ check your local laws on it.

I've heard that if you can get it registered as "off road only" it's a bit cheaper and easier. If the cars I import will either only see the track or the trails, will that make a difference? The customs and border protection site's information didn't really touch on that.

I think you'd probably find it easier to move to japan?
