1997 Cougar 3.8L A/C recharging

My A/C isn't cooling so I bought a can of EZ Chill to recharge it. The coupler won't go on the fitting, it's too small. It will fit on the smaller fitting, but I was told that the low side is the larger of the fittings. I am assuming that I have a R134a system but am unsure. Is there any way to tell?
