:screwy: Ok. . . It has been another horribly rainy day here in Cincinnati! Took my 2000 GA GT to Blockbuster around 6p.m. Parked the car and everything was normal! I took the dog out about 10:30p.m and as soon as I got outside noticed my fog lights were on. This seemed strange to me since I know the fogs will only come on when parking lights are on and key is in the on position. What was even more strange is the car was locked and my keys were inside my house. I went upstairs to grab my keys and when I came back down the fogs were off. I did notice when they were on the fog switch was illuminated inside the car. Any one have any ideas? Was my car just saying hello to me when I came outside or is there some sort of logical explanation to this? I need help because I can't afford to come outside somewhere and have a dead battery! HELP! Also when I started the car up to see if battery was dead yet there was a loud groaning coming from the passenger side dashboard! I opened the glove box and it seemed to get louder(leads me to beleive the problem is somewhere in that area!) I let the car idle for a few and gave the dash a couple hard smacks and the noise stopped! I don't know if these two things are related or if this was just a coincidence.

Could be your fog lamp relay it is located in the pass side fuse box.
Thier is also a fuse in that box letter "F".

Or you could have a water leak....
See any wet spots by the dash or front floor boards ?

also the body control module is under the glove box, if the noise is coming from that area more then the fuse box.

WOW!!! Thank you for your incredibly fast response! I have the door panel off on the passenger side (blown speaker and waiting for new ones to arrive). I did notice there was water on the running board on the passenger side but none had reached the floor yet. I am starting to think maybe the water had something to do with the blown speaker. Is it possible that water has been leaking in under the door panel and I just haven't noticed it? Also the rest of the door was dry just water in the one place (running board I think it is called, plastic piece that pulls off. I have the wires to my subs running underneath it) So my question was where do you think the water is coming in?

Dont think water was the problem with the speaker, they are just cheap speakers IMO and always blow out, they are tiny too.
For water to get inside your door, the outside, window gasket/seal would have to be cracked allowing it to run inside the door, thier are drains on the bottom of the door check that they are open.

Thier are several leak issues....

If you have a sun roof, some drains leak down the pilars(by the front window) and it runs out right onto the fuse boxes' on the dash, generaly caused from the sun roof gasket leaking and the drain hose cracking in the headliner.
Some leak around the door gaskets, front & rear.

A piece of paper shut in the door can chcek for loose spots in the door gaskets. Just pull it around through the gaskets , if it pulls easily with little or not resistance then it could be a possible leak spot.

Hope that helps & Good Hunting!

Just wanted to post an update. I still have not figured out where the leak is coming from yet. (No time today) I had my school books on the passenger side floor. I moved them today so someone could get in and surprise, underneath there was literaly standing water. The smell of mold sure comes on fast! LOL. I will be looking for the leak tomorrow so I will post an update!

OK Calling everyone who has had problems with their sunroof drains! I finally found where the drain is, I opened the sunroof and poured water into the start of the drain with the door open. Sure enough water went right down the drain and came out right above the passenger fuse panel. It actually went straight into the panel. I pulled out the headliner and tried to follow the drain tube. I noticed it runs into the pillar but I don't know how to get to it. I pulled the plastic piece off the pillar hoping the tube was just behind there but it actually runs in the pillar. I pushed on the tube and it just cracked! It is incredibly rotted and falling apart. I know it needs replaced but I don't know how to get to it or how to replace it! HELP!

It does run through the pillar and comes out below the door hinge...
I have a pic.
This is the drivers side exit same local on the pass side.

.. you can see the drain outlet from the opening of the door , when its open. Remove the lower kick panel below the dash, you should be able to see the hose exiting.

A real PITA to get a new hose through the pillar. :banghead:

My GT leaked onto both fuse boxes and blowed a BCM.
Luckily my hose was only cracked where it was painted at the top drain inlet.

Thank you for all your replies. I did find a picture on here! The entire tube feels so brittle like the whole thing is about to crumble! I can't beleive Pontiac would use something that would not hold up to the water. It just seems like it should have been made a little easier to replace! I am going to have to do something b/c I have standing water on the floor. Have they done anything about this problem in the newer GA's?

yeah they sure cut some corners and saved a few pennys. lol

You can buy the tubing at most part stores by the foot, I'd buy extra just in case. Once you get the tube started into the pillar opening at the top its not real hard to get it to the bottm.

From what I have seen it was caused from the paint shrinking and causing the plastic to crack.
GM shouldnt have painted them. :nono:

Also it is the sun roof gasket that is making it leak more then it should. The drains are ment for short leaks like having it open when it starts to rain.
It is a dealer part, not cheap probly close to $100.

Good Luck

Thanks. . . Sounds like another fun weekend job! I have two more questions and hopefully I will be able to put this behind me. No. 1: What is involoved in replacing the sunroof gasket? And No 2: There has been a lot of talk about people getting their BCM fried when these drains leak. What exactly is the BCM responsible for and how will I know if mine is still operable?

its pretty easy to repalce the sun roof gasket it just pulls off from around the glass trim edge. I dont think thier are any fasteners holding it but I'd double check.

The BCM- body control module, controls interior lighting and other odds and ends including part of the security system.
On most all of these I've seen or heard about, thier were no issues other then the SVS light is always on. And some I have seen with constant no start issues... very few though.

The ONLY way to find out what it is would be to have the stealership scan it with thier fancy software, the Tech II scanner.
Most off brand scan tools would give some generic trouble code like p1610 - lose of serial data from the BCM or communications error..

Good Luck and hopefully you caught it in time, I new BCM is around $400 + install and reprograming = about $500.
A used one with the exact same options, stereo, power windows, engine size etc etc would also work, it just would need a relearn from the dealershits.

I have a used one in my 99 GT, it was tricky to find a match because I have a factory tape deck w/ CD and I didnt know for sure if others would work properly.

Hope that helps.
