97 grand am won't run

I have a 97 grand am Gt with 3.1 liter v6. When I put the key in the ignition and turn it to run, all the lights on the dash light up like they would anyway, but when I turn it to start nothing happens. Everything on the inside of the car works like normal, and if I turn the key to run and jump the starter terminals it cranks up and runs fine and can go as far as I want to go in it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Your ignition switch could be going bad...I would double check the wires leading to the starter and ensure that they are tightened properly. Try putting the car in neutral and see if it starts...could be that the neutral safety switch needs adjustment...check that there is no corrosion, dirt or rust buildup in the wires...it also could mean that the starter is going bad....Dont forget to disconnect the battery before tinkering with the starter... let us know what the problem was please
