I'd say go to a hairdresser to do it, it's expensive but at least its done properly. I plan on getting dreadlocks when I think my hair is long enough (its far too short now).

The question is Joey: Can you sit still enough for 6 hours while theres all this pain goin on on top of your head?

one of my friends were going to get them.. but then he eventually changed his mind cause he realized how nasty it would be, you cant really wash them and they get all nappy

You can wash them, you can buy dread shampoo which is designed for it. Or you can just use saltwater..keeps em clean, kills lice and helps them retain their shape.

I think that dreads for the most part are hella nasty... not that they're not clean, but the just look like a big hairball that you fish out of the shower drain.

i never got the point of them?? they look like dead hair wrapped up in a hair ball the cat spits up...

but if you want them go for it..

i think fro's are better then dreads...a) dreads make you look bald b) they look dirty/skiddish c) sometimes makes you look like you're trying to be black.

just my opinion on the matter!

I bought the dreadhead stuff, and it's good stuff. Unfortunately, I only got to have the dreads for 2 weeks since my parents really hated them, so they weren't full on dreadlocks, but they still looked pretty damn cool. I say you go for the dreadhead stuff.

Dreads look cool for about a month, but then they just start to look like you glued a hairball to your head in a bunch of places. I've seen it happen too many times.

That's if people don't take care of em. I know a girl who's had dreads for a year and they still look great.

Not to be racist, but you really have to be black to pull it off and even then sometimes it's nasty.

I'll never forget the time I was in Kmart (I know, I know) and saw this big white guy, probably 6'7", and his hair had formed itself into two dreadlock-ish things that hung down his back. They looked like Jar Jar Binks' ears. :bloated: :apuke: Just nasty.

Braids. My hair has been braided for about two years now. It takes almost about 6-10 hours for one arthritic person to do a full head of 8 inch hair. Almost teh same effect as dreads, and you can take them out without having to shave your head. Downside is maintenance- if you don't take good care of your hair while their in the braids, the hair will break and you get this "Ghost Afro" thing going on. it's very uncool.

yeah..taking them out is fun. first you got braids...then I'm a dead ringer for carrot top...then, I wash it...it gets wet, falls down...and I look like some crazed, evil, long haired madman. *sigh* the many faces of Dustin.

Reason number 13 for Braids- CATS LOVE THEM!

Real dreads arent something you just do, its your hair naturally doing that over time...like an unwashed longhair dog. You start them sometimes with that wax stuff and get them going, pretty much just keeps the hair together until it starts tangling and growing around itself. I had them once when my hair was almost shoulder length, had em for about 4 months and I was actually able to take them out which means they never really dreaded. Either way, its gonna be at least a year before thier technically dreads.

If you want em like that Joey you're gonna have to grow your hair a bit longer than 5 inches :bloated:

I wouldn't mind some like Bob Marleys. If you get them big you need the hair (I have it  ) and you have to keep them neat, or they just look dead, like roadkill.

Yeah my dad thinks that too, "not before school ends" He is such a pain in the arse. All he talks about is school this school that, it is like his life .

But having parents split up is good, mum is laid back and she will let me get my dreads, even if I'm at school. She understands that even if I don't get them done at a hairdresser, I will just get them done by hand by girls I know. Having long hair is quite a pain in the arse, as all the chicks want ot play with it and do things.

It is when you see some of the creations they do to it, and it prevents you playing Hacky. Well most of the chicks in my year now are going out with year 12s, we are year 10... :apuke:
