Rear Speaker question

Hi everyone

my rear 6x9 speakers rattle like crazy when bass is turned up. It sounds like they may be blown, but i am not sure (could just be a bad design??)

I bought new 6x9 speakers and pulled the old ones out, but they don't seem to be standard speakers. They are Delco with a nice connector on them, nothing soldered. I believe these are stock, with factory amp, 6 speakers, etc.

My question is, when these speakers rattle, are they normally blown or do all Aleros rattle this way.

Also, any suggestions on replacement speakers? I don't want to do any splicing, soldering, etc.

thanks for any advice

Aside from oem speakers, most speakers require some kind of wiring job, either in hooking up a conector or a complete rewire. The stock speakers in the alero aren't the best and doesn't take much to blow them. If you got a rattle then it is a good bet they're blown. If you want to just replace them yourself without wiring then find some oem's. If you have an audio shop or someone who will do the wiring for you, then any 6x9 speaker will work (it's a matter of personal preferance which brand you choose as a lot of the better quality speakers all have very good quality).

The rear speakers on the high end Monsoon system are what's called bi-amp. They have seperate connections for the woofer and the tweeter. The signals are filtered inside the amp. The only non OEM replacement bi-amp speaker I could find was made by Soundstream. They are more power hungry than the OEM speakers, you lose quite a bit of bass, factory amp won't push them enough. I could figure no way to connect a normal coaxial 6x9 to the factory wiring, as they have only the one set of inputs. You'd have to connect the low pass or high pass only from the amp and wouldn't sound good at all.

The SST6.9 are what I replaced the OEM rear speakers with. They come with crossovers but aren't needed since signals are already filtered.

i ordered a head unit / front/rear speakers from crutchfield. the package comes with master install sheets and wiring adapters for the headunit and speakers. All you really need to do is to find the correct connector that you can use to connect your after market speakers to existing oem wiring/connectors. If you're busy (or lazy) like me, just pay a few extra dollars and order it from crutchfiled.com.
