My car immediately stall out unless I keep my foot on the gas.

My RAV4 immediately stall out unless I keep my foot on the gas. I have to put my car in Drive or reverse and press on the gas or it cuts off. Can someone help me.

Number one would be an idle air control valve if equipped. Cleaning the throtlle body would help. KNOWING YOUR MODEL YEAR AND ENGINE SIZE WOULD HELP TOO.

I had a some what similar issue with mine, some three years ago. Only mine stalled out as I got to a stop. It was intermitent but happened frequently. After some diag I found that the TPS (throttle position sensor) was bad. I replaced it and still had the problem but not nearly as bad. went to the dealer and they couldn't find the problem either. Any way, after some poking around through some Toyota books that a friend hapily got for me on loan, of course, I found that all I had to do is calibrate the TPS so the PCM could see the throttle at zero volts when the pedal was not depressed. I forget the procedure completely. But I can look it up again if needed and if that is your problem.
