rear brake problem 94 taurus

I checked the rear brakes on my 94 Taurus I recently bought and I found out that it need new brakes. The pads were shot and were down to the metal. I replaced the pads, rotors and calipers. When I went to bleed the system nothing happened. At first I thought it was because air was in the system but I removed the brake hose that attaches to the caliper and I still got nothing.....both sides are doing this. Could the problem be the master cylinder?

I'd suggest you start at the rear proportioning valve. See if you have fluid on the rear brake side. If nothing there, then see if you have fluid at the master cylinder side. If no fluid there either, then move to the master cylinder and see if there is fluid coming out of the outlet for the proportioning valve.

Since it sounds like your Taurus has 4-wheel disc brakes, do you also have ABS?

Yes the car has ABS. I just took a look at the rear proportioning valve, I'm thinking that might be the problem. I'm not sure what its supposed to look like but I think there might be a part missing. The operating rod and the piece that connect the adjuster to the valve assembly seem very loose.

I checked the rear proportioning valve and I have fluid coming out of both of the rear brake side lines but by the calipers both lines are both dry. So possibly both sides are plugged in the rubber hose?

The hoses could have collapsed internally. That could be why the brkes wore so far down. In the begining, the hose will usually let pressure in , but not let it flow out normally making rhe brakes drag somewhat. Eventually, the hose becomes inoperable.
