Holas!
What's the average gas mileage you guys get from a VX? And also, is the car able to go faster than 80mph?
I got 31mpg on my last tank, combined, maxed speed around 85mph.
What do you think?

I think it's pretty whack. I got the same gas mileage w/ my old d16z6 and you should be able to get it faster than that.

I think edmunds gives it a high rating, so let us know

Thanks for the reply.
I will be completely disassembling, cleaning and reinstalling the trottlebody, and installing a cai this afternoon. I've already done a full tune-up minus timing and run a can on Techron thru. I think my cat. converter maybe going bad a bit, because I can get a bad smell from the exhaust. But a local muffler shop said that this was unlikely because I can reach 80mph. He said that if the cat was failing, I wouldn't be able to hit 50mph.
We'll see.
Cheers!

What do you think? Sounds about right.I hammered the hell out of my VX motor before I swapped it and 87 downhill was all it had.

Hey Jcrx,
So for best results as far as mileage goes, I should keep speeds around 70mph, right?
So what about all the talk about getting 40-50mpg?
I don't like not getting any performance from this engine:( And I don't have the resources for a swap... Oh well.
Thanks and Cheers!

I never measured my MPG,but I would fill it up about every two and a half weeks, considering my fiancee lived 20 miles away and I would drive there everyday and then back home, that seemed pretty good to me.If your looking for better milage, get a full tune up/oil change, make sure your tire pressure is good and run a fuel system cleaner through it.

Hey Jcrx....
Well, I've done a full tune-up as such: CAI, NGK blue wires, Bosch platinum 2 plugs, new distributor cap and rotor, new belts, and new PCV valve. I've had the car about 2 weeks now and I did an oil change about 2 days after I baught the car. And I ran a can of STP fuel system cleaner (grey bottle) throught the last tank of gas.
For you to have only pumped gas every other week is awesome. That roughly comes to about 400 miles per tank, I think. That's what I want too.
I posted earlier about a bad catalytic converter. What do you think? The EGR, MAP sensor, and O2 sensor look brand new. Maybe the cat is partially clogged, maybe there's a vacuum leak that I haven't founf, maybe the timing is off. These are the only three things that I can think of.
Let me know.
I appreciate all your help.
Cheers!

Depends on the condition of the engine really, altitude, like you said the cat, whether or not you drive up a lot of hills ,your pedal technique, there are so many things that contribute to gas milage. From my experiance that motor really shines around 60 MPH on the freeway.Do you go thourgh a lot of oil?I know you said you've only had it for a couple weeks, check the oil once a week to see if it is burning. When you pulled the plugs, what did they look like? Also Hondas aren't fond of Bosch, for my experiance also.Others say they are fine but my car didn't likr them and I went back to NGK's.

my 235,350 mile VX engine is getting about 34 freeway 32 city. Im religious about oil changes, tune up once a year (mostly just checks and filter changes) and with a short ram air intake the fastest I got it was about 98mph (and it was scary, car gets unstable). But I have no trouble gettin it up to about 85-88mph on a regular basis. But, like I was sayin in your other post, I have a new stock exhaust (with some cat changes) which may explain why I can get it up to 85+.
I may agree with your cat clog theory, you have the CAI on right with all the hoses and plugs in the right place, as manufacturers didnt have us in mind when they made those pipes.

Hey friends!
So I guess I'll have to redo my style of driving and keep tinkering. I was beginning to think that mine was the only case, but now I see that this is quite normal.
Jcrx, there are no hills that big here in Houston to affect mpg's that much. My daily drive is about 25-30 miles 50-50 city/freeway.
Well, this weekend the car is getting a thorough once over going on what everybody's been posting.
Thanks and cheers!
