has anyone removed the 4x4?

i have a 95 4x4 blazer, and i just blew the 4.3. if im doing a motor job im going bigger. so im doing the v8 swap. now the 4x4 i dont need and dont want. just wanted to know if any one done one. i know i can swap out the spindels and tranny. can i just rip the front axles out and drop the transfer case?
