05 Equinox - noise while turning the wheel

I have a 2005 Equinox LT AWD and lately I have noticed that when cutting the wheel, there seems to be a strange noise - almost like the power steering pump is failing. It still steers easily, but the noise seems to be louder after the vehicle warms up. I wanted to check the power steering fluid, but I can't even find the resevoir. Does this problem sound familiar? Can somebody help.
Thanks

I don't think you have power steering as such. The steering receives an electrical boost...I think?

Here's a TSB relative to the power steering. Only have the number, haven't read it. It may help if you take the car to a dealer

The No. is Electric Power Steering Characteristics TSB Number 06-02-32-002.

Also there is TSB ON
Groan hiss or popping noise when turning.

TSB 04-03-08-008B

Built before production vin 56073267.
Is you vin before or after it?

Concerns coil spring or well well or sway bar link noise.

You will need the GM front end noise listing ears.
To find the soruce of noise.
Kent moore tool no J39570
To find the problem.

But as always do the basic check first.
Check PS fluid condition and fluid level and listen for PS pump noise.

If the noise is squeaky one, replace both of your front struts. I just replace both of my wife's front struts. They where making squeaky noise while turning; upon inspecting them, they were leaking fluid.

I replaced both struts with Monroe for $135 from rockauto.

Had the popping noise during normal driving. The lower strut seals were replaced under warranty.

This whinning you hear is the ELECTRIC power steering assist. These vehicles have electric power steering not hydraulic. Mine has done the same thing for a couple of years now.

my daughters 2005 ls was making a noise when you turned the wheel and when you looked under the fender at it and had someone turn the wheel you could see the coil spring move. We had guy pull the struts and grease the top bearing or whatever it is up there. And the noise went away. Hope that helps. Jack T.

another sweaking noise we found was the sway bar link that was in desperate need of grease. there is no grease fitting so I just jambed some grease for now behind the rubber boot. You could feel it was sticking. Hope that helps someone. Jack
