If HLJ shipments get anyfaster, I'm going to start getting things before I order them. Well, it's just as we all feared, same Ford Focus kit with new decals and painting instructions. Oh well, got the proper wheels on the way from Media Mix Hobbies. I'm just noe sure what color to paint it. HLJ suggests Telefonica Blue and the instructions says to use Racing Blue.....hmmmm.

Please, if you can, take some pics!
So same 2001 hood and roof intake? Waht about decals? Which rally do they represent and what versions (drivers) can you make?

Yeah, it's the same hood and roof intake (well, I'm guessing it's the same intake, the sprue it's on says Tamiya c.1999). As for the drivers, you get decals for #6 Deutchland Rally Martin and Park and #23 Rallye de France Duval and Fortin.
As for pics, do want pics of the box and parts, or want to wait 'til I start the build up? After all, UPS just dropped this off a few hours ago.:D

Well, if you want to build the 2002 Deutschland one, then you have your work set out for you, since the hood and roof intake are VERY different to the 2001 car:
http://wrc-online.net/images/photos/ford/2002germany/markko_front_480.jpg
As for building the Duval car, I think the kit will be a bit more accurate there as he was driving a 2001 Focus last year.
http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/397025tam24261.jpg
I think the correct color would be Telefonica Blue too, since the car was a metallic blue.
I am more interested in seeing what the decals are like, if you could show a photo of them :)
Thanks

Well, I am off to a job interview. I will post pics of the decal a bit later tonight. I have seen a trans kit for the Deutchland car, but the few places I have seen them, they are out of stock.
I will get the pics up later tonight.

Peugeot utilises a 5-bolt pattern for the hubs, the Focus uses a 4-bolt pattern. Unless you plan on doing some modification to the hub on the Peugeot wheels, they wull be incorrect.

Not really, it's TS-51.

Wasn't going to bother getting this kit but now I see it has the decals for a tarmac Markko car I may reconsider  The required modifications shouldn't be that difficult, except maybe the headlights :( The hardest part looks like finding out exactly what shade of blue to use. Hopefully it is TS-51 Telefonica blue :D
Asmenoth

The instructions list TS-51 as Racing Blue. But that's the color code for Telefonica Blue. Mabye Tamiya just renamed it? Now I just need to get a can of TS-51 and the transkit for the new hood and mabye the PE kit for the RS Focus from Studio 27.

Tamiya often does that, they name the factory color code (for example Bayside Blue) and then give the closest Tamiya match (TS-50)

Looking at both of these pics, I've noticed something....the wheels. The kit comes with decals for the 2 cars, the hood and roof scoop for the Rallye de France #23 car with the Ford emblem on the front grill and the wheels for the Deutchland Rally car, but missing the GPS box, improper roof scoop and says nothing about putting the RS logo on the front grill instead of the Ford one. If so many of the parts/decals/instructions are for the Ralley de France car, then why didn't Tamiya include the wheels that are on the box? grrrrr...

It seems like Tamiya are getting as lazy as Fujimi with their recent re-issues of old kits with minor changes and different decals. How many Peugeot 206 and Subaru WRC variations can they come up with? Surely it wouldn't have been too much for them to put the correct wheels into this kit
Not that this has stopped me ordering it, I'm patiently waiting for my Hobbysearch order to come through :)

It didn't stop me either, but i was hoping that mabye a sprue or new parts would be included at least. Look at the new 206's, they at least changed the body a bit, but they also threw in a sprue of new parts. It would have been nice for this one, especially since it's a limited release kit. Of course the price with the new decals added is cheaper than it would have been to buy the newest Focus kit and the appropriate after market decal set.

Well, my comment about the kit having the wrong wheels for the Duval car were premature. I found a pic of Duval's car on WRC.com with the 5 spoke wheels looking just like the model. So with half the decals...the kit is fairly accurate.

I can find photos of Duval's car running 5-spokes and 15, the same for Markko's car too, but for the rally the decals for, I have only found photos of the car with 15 spoke wheels.

Don't forget to lift the suspension to the appropriate ride height, as well as the correct rims and tires for snow.
You can get decal sheets that include rally Sweden decals, you could get one of those and cannibablise them.

The pic said it was for Tour de Course.
As for the proper wheels for the rally in Sweden, the tires in my Hasegawa Corolla for the New Zealand Rally almost look like the right tires. At least they appear thin enough for a starting point, less material to cut off. For the wheels themselves.....not sure, seen some that look right, but would have to be cut down.

You are quite right, I managed to find the photo you must be referring to with Duval running 5-spokes on Rallye France.
As for the snow tyres, it would take some serious work to make ANY gravel tire look like a Rally Sweden snow tire, the snow tires are only about 4" wide and use paddles of varying directions depending on the stages being run.
You could utilise the rims as you mentioned though and narrow them down.

I got my Rennesance wheels today. hmmmm don't know what to do. I would like to say thanks to FOTW for the post about adding posts to wheels without 'em....that was going tobe one of my questions. The other is what can I do about the bolt pattern. Theses are the wheels suggested for the Ford Focus transkits, but they have 5 bolts instead of 4.

Just solved the attachment problem. I happen to have to spare "bolts" from an old Tamiya kit, the kind that are on the Kure Nismo. Just shoved 'em through the holes and they stay on. Now for the 5 bolt problem.........

Now for the other project....the suspension is finished, not sure if I should put on the 5 spoke wheels or the 15 spoke wheels with the incorrect bolt pattern. Unless someone can suggest a method on how to correct them. Now waiting on my can of Telefonica blue paint.

Thanks guys, I thought it looked right myself. Primer doesn't matter, I used grey the first time and white the second time after sanding it down to get the dust and rubbed off paint fixed. After priming it, I sprayed Tamiya's Gunmetal Gray onto it, then the Telefonica Blue.

Coming along nicely Asmenoth. Colour and finish looks good, possibly a bit dark. But due to the limitations of photograpy, computer monitors and the like, only you will be able to tell for sure.
I suggest you stick with the 5 spoke wheels. Always best to go with the most accuracte option. Although you'd have nothing to lose by making up all eight wheels and changing them at your whim :)
It could be possible to modify the hubs like Mikko did here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93076). But the multiple spokes would make it very fiddly.
Are you wotking to Zeljko's Rally Competition deadline?

I suggest you stick with the 5 spoke wheels. Always best to go with the most accuracte option. Although you'd have nothing to lose by making up all eight wheels and changing them at your whim :)
It could be possible to modify the hubs like Mikko did here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=93076). But the multiple spokes would make it very fiddly.
Are you wotking to Zeljko's Rally Competition deadline?
Yeah, I'm trying to. Probably get it done in time, though I am having a hard time deciding on which kits to enter. The Hasegawa Corolla will also be finished by then and, even with the extra details on the Corolla, both are box stock. hmmmmmm

Looking at different pics of the real car and pics of the compleated model I have noticed something about the color. Compaired to the real car, the color does appear to be a bit dark. Compared to pics of the compleated model, the color looks very dark. Oh well.

It's not so much the kit that is limited as the decals, they are using the same molds as for the 2001 Focus, but the decals are being made by Cartograf and there will only be a limited number made.
