Hi everyone, well I had asked in the past about a header and everyone told me to get a pacesetter/armor coated. Well I came across one from a friend for a great price and the only thing is.. it's for a 1998 2.2L cavalier.
My question is ,will this fit on my 2.2L 1997 cavalier? It is a LS non-Z24.
Also what are the diffrences If there is any?
Another question but this is for the valve cover.Currently there is a little bit of oil leaking from the valve cover and I purchased a new gasket. How hard is it to remove the valve cover( I plan on cleaning and painting it) and replace the gasket? Is there anything specific I should be aware of before I attempt this?
Thanks alot,
Christina

Header Question:
No difference, it will fit. It is the same exact motor in both cars.
Valve Cover:
Not hard to remove at all. Just remove everything that is in the way and take out the bolts holding it down. Just make sure you cover the engine so no dust, dirt or any other foreign material falls in.

.
well thats wrong
although im not sure if it will fit, i do know that the 97, and 98 are NOT the exact same motors. i forget exactly what, but GM did something to the 98 to give it 5 less horsepower and make it run smoother, it also has a different intake, they're almost the same, but are certainly not identical. i THINK everything below the head is the same, but there are numerous differences above the head
you may consider doing a little bit more research....

95-97 heads are different than 98-02 2.2L OHV motors.
It will bolt up yes, but the ports will be off and so will your gasket. Thus why when you go and buy a brand new one, there are 2 different part numbers for the ohv motors.

i meant same as in 2.3, 2.4, 2.2, 2200, 2.2 eco. im not going to get into details about something that doesnt involve the question. i guess im gonna have to start....
all in all, it will bolt up. end of story.
and cody, thank you for explaining what was left out about the ports not lining up. Im not going to lie, im not an expert on pre-00 2.2. i have not dealt with that engine other then in the junkyard :p

what do you mean you "meant same as in 2.3, 2.4, 2.2, 2200, 2.2 eco"
you said, and i quote, "it is the same exact motor in both cars" and that simply isnt true
are you saying that the 1 same header will fit all of those listed engines??
dont get me wrong im not trying to be mean but man, i am truly confused with that last one

lol. no, its cool. i wasnt thinking in depth when i replied to the question. i thought same as in 2.2. 2.2 pre/post '98 or anything of that sort was completely oblivious to me at the time. Give you, I shouldnt of said the word "exact", as i believe that is whats throwing everyone off, making my statement wrong; you are completely right there.
and no, I am well aware that a single header will not fit on all engines, dont worry.
does that clear everything up?

deadblade: yes
christina: yes, it will physically fit, it will bolt up. HOWEVER since the holes on the head wont match up exactly with the holes on the header, the airflow isnt going to be the greatest, therefore you wont have much of a performance gain
you will be much better off just getting one designed for your specific engine (98-01 2.2's) and some 2002s

This header is made for the 96-02 2.2L Cavaliers2.5" Outlet
2.25" Inlet . I have a photo of the o2 sensor..I just want to make sure that this is where it's suppose to be.

Another question..I know it might be stupid but the o2 sensor is that the samething as "smog sensor"?
Thanks alot.

i would stay the hell away from that header if its saying its for the 96-02, since there are 2 different engines in that range and its saying it will work on them both..... someone doesnt know very much about what they're selling. reminds me of the bullshit they sell on ebay, spend the extra $$$ and get something good, something designed specifically for the 98-01
performance isnt cheap, so dont try to make it work like that

lol..good thing I asked! But my car is a 97 not a 98. So...you want me to look for something in the 98-01 range? OR no because you thought I had a 98?.lol..I'm sorry I just want to get the right thing.
Thanks for the fast reply!

Does no one not read what I write?
