2000 Intrepid

My 2000 Dodge Intrepid has this weird thing going on. I'll be driving down the road and the MPH gage will bounce up and down, The RPM gage will bounce up and down, if I have the headlights on they will dim and the car feels like it is "skipping" just enough for me to notice. No one else notices the "skipping" but have seen the gages and headlights. It only last a couple of seconds and then clears up. The check engine light is not on, it does come on when the car is started, so I know it works. I have been told it could be anything from a spark plug to the computer. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I belive I had the same thing happen to me once or twice before, Now my car is having an undiagnosable engine problem (or several) and one of them is the crank position sensor, that might be causing your problem. Grammy2b.

I have a question, I was wondering if anyone here knew of anyone changing their 2000 Intrep over froma 2.7L to a 3.3L useing the tranny and running gear out of a 97 Intrep or even one of the newer mini vans? I was concidering trying to do this with my 2000 intrep.

I had wierd things happening on my 2001 R/T as well: overhead interior lights wouldn't shut off during one trip, dashboard lights flickering, engine completely died while exiting the highway.

Other than these 3 isolated incidents which occurred within a few weeks, I had never had any electrical trouble.

I removed the battery (not a very fun job), cleaned the connectors and posts, and reinstalled and have never had a problem since.

I had the same problem with the car dying and everything going nutty, kinda like someone unplugged it for a few minutes. Took the battery out (your right, not fun) and replaced the battery terminals and it was fine after that.

But this a new problem with the car. But I have been doing a little bit of experimenting with the car. The only time the car does this is when I am in a certain spot on the highway and ONLY in this spot. I drove back and forth 1 day about 8 times and it ALWAYS did it in THAT spot. Could it be possible that there is just something in that area that is affecting the computer.

I never had this happen with any other car and people I've talked to haven't had this happen either. My husband actually thought I was nuts until I took him up and down that particular part of the highway 4 times and showed him.

I avoid that part of the highway like the plague now and it hasn't happened at all since.
Thank you for your input though.
