ok, i have a 1990 prelude, SOHC engine 5speed. Anytime i start this car up, it idles pretty high, usually between 2000 3500 rpms. it does this for about 5 minutes then stops. even if i start to drive before the idle reduces, it still pulls hard and when i push the clutch in the idle shoots up. anyone know what this could be. if i start the car up after its already been ran a while, and its still warm, it does not do this... i also get fuel fumes in this car but only when my sunroof or windows are open, but no leaks that i can find? any suggestions on that? thanks

Have you tired adjusting the idle level? If you didn't know already, the idle adjustment screw is on the throttle body. Make sure you start the car and let it get to running temp (aka warmed up). When it's warm, take a screw driver and adjust the screw, I believe it's clockwise. And that'll lower your idle. But most cars, especially when it's cold out, idle higher untill they're warmed up. As for the fumes, you got me there. :-/

the fumes may be coming from your fuel evaporative canister it takes the trapped fuel vapor in the gas tank and sends it back through the cylinder to be burned again has to do with smog but it also can affect your idling problem so find your fuel evap canister looks like a big black cylinder shaped like the biggest monster drink you can buy and has a few vacuum lines coming out of the to-p of it disconnect it an turn it upside down if it leaks out fuel then its no good the reason being is the charcoal inside the canister gets saturated with gas and can no longer do its job on newer cars it usually associates a check engine light with the code fuel evap system gross leak or etc

your best bet is to take your car to a good repair shop and ask them to diagnose your car. they can check if your sensors are sending correct signal into your engine puter. they can check for any vacuum leaks, they can check if your fuel system is fucked up, no internal leaks etc. be careful when ask questions in this forum because most people here pretends they know what they are talking about.

Ever heard of Grammar? And we wouldn't post something if we didn't know what we were talking about. I don't mean to be a dick, but you really don't know anything about us. Not a single thing. And judging by your poor grammar usage skills and punctuation, I wouldn't listen to you. That's for sure. And if I recall correctly, I believe YOU, Mr. gaylude, did post a thread that asked at least one question. " P301 and P1399 error codes help me" Let's not contradict ourselves, shall we?

Im not trying to be a dick either but I think you need to go grammar forums. Im sure you can ask them if they ever heard of grammar. This forum is for prelude questions only.

Ooh nice comeback -.- . Also, there are apotrophes in the word 'I'm'
But I really don't think this involved you.
And this is AUTOMOTIVE forums. No forums about grammar, kiddo.
I was just pointing out that he had some poor grammar.

Well, let me say this. You can call me all your little insults. It just shows you're incompetent. But yeah, you're contradicting yourself when you and I both are arguing abuot grammar on a Prelude forum. You fail. I'm sorry.
