control arm bushing

I have a 2000 Grand Prix GTP 145,000 miles and runs great! I just got new tires and they told me I needed new control arm bushing and tire rod ends and it woul be $585.84. I have done tire rod ends but not control arm bushings. Is there any thing I sholud know about that I could run into trouble with? Any special tools I would need? Thanks for any help.

An air impact wrench for loosening the rusted bolts and an air hammer for driving out the old bushing are about it. It can be done without them, but it's much simpler with.

Another thing i forgot to mention. On the factory bushings, one is installed from the top, the other from the bottom. The new ones can both be installed from the top (it's easier to do tht way). There is a lip that keeps the bushing from being pressed in too far. Just look for it on the factory bushing, so you know which way it has to be pressed out.

Just an addition to the above. If you do not have a powerful air hammer you may want to heat it up. I actually did the last one without my air hammer because my compressor was broke, but it was P.I.T.A.

I found when I did mine the rubber was seperated from the sleeve so I just removed the rubber, hacksawed a cut along the length of the sleeve (watch to not cut into the control arm too much, although I doubt a small cut will hurt anything) and pound it out from there...was pretty easy for me.
