98 Dodge Ram front axel

I recently had to put in a new front axel and ujoints and all. Well i got it apart and now something has gone terribly wrong. I cant figure out how to get it back together. Anybody know where i can get an disassemble and re assemble breakdown? Any help would be great, Thanks, Kate:grinyes:

BTW Although I am a new member I have alot of experience with this truck. And it just so happens I just finished doing the front axles.

Thats the easy side. What is the problem you are having? Putting the shaft back in?

Yes and the big piece that goes after that. Im going to change all the gear oils to. do you know what kind i need and dont different parts take different kinds of gear oil?

You know that there is a seal inside the tube you have to be careful of. You should vaccum out the tube and get as much dirt out as possible. When you slide the axle back in try to keep it centered in the hole as much as possible till it goes thru the seal, then slowly rotate the axle until the splines line up and axle goes in. As far as the big thing you are talking about, is that the hub bearing where the lug bolts are?

Yes thats it, i went blank and couldnt think of the name of it.

well after you get the axle in you install the 2 dust covers then the hub.Did you mark the dust covers so you know the direction they go back? Clean the inside of spindle where the hub seats and clean the outer part of the hub where it goes into the spindle to remove rust. Then put anti sieze comound on those 2 sufaces only. Slide it in the hole and over the axle spline. And actually you should also put a small amount of grease on the axle before you slide it in on the shiny part that rides on the inner seal.

When you slide the axle in dont force it. Like I said , keep it centered as much as possible and carefully slide it thru the seal. Put a little anti seize on the outer spline before installing hub and also on the three bolts holding it in. And the 3 bolts should be 125 foot pounds torque .
