Paint coming off my 2002 Ford Taurus SE

I've had a Ford Taurus SE for seven years and have taken really good care of this car. I recently took it to my Ford dealer for my 90,000 mile checkup. Afterwards I noticed that I had a sealer type plastic seal coming off the hood and drivers side. The nice thing is that it's going on in other places of the car and now it fills up with water and stretches out to more places.

Will Ford pay for this? I've taken it to the Ford dealer and they told me that PPG used to be handle paint for them with some dealers and had the same problem.

Well, I've had it this long so do I fix it myself or tell Ford to fix it? Afterall it's been six years?

Thanks to all that reply.

Clear coat is peeling off. Needs to be refinished.

You may check for some Ford/Taurus/Sable web sites. Could be some class action suit is in process/being formed if this is a wide spread problem. You could file to be included in the suit. Typically, if you are out of your warranty period, you will have to take care of it yourself.

Another great Ford finish.. happened to my 87 wagon around 3 years old.. clearcoat started peeling at edges ., also top of the roof above windshield.. I filed papers with Ford, they weren't interested in admitting or resolving the problem.. there were literally 1000's of Ford=Lincoln products affected with s$%t paint jobs, if you search you can find them.. they did have a recall or rebate type deal for owners of pickup trucks a long time ago.. I ended up footing the bill for a paint job, at that time cost me about a grand,, I kept all my paperwork in case Ford ever acknowledged blame, I'm still waiting, car is gone to scrap pile, now about 2 years,
